more than likely it will be at the latest level, atleast i update them everytime i have to work on one to monitor EOT thru pid data. I assume most other dealers did the same. and when ordering a chip a TDE1 4 bank will work, the dpc code is generally the most important information you need

So on a manual OBS ZF-5 truck does the stock PCM programing impact aftermarket files? In other words as example I swapped (into sig truck) a ZF from my "96 also with the swap I installed the '96 ALF4 PCM with Tony Wildman Van Aaken chipsets with 4 files on it.
Would there be advantage/ value to upgrading the PCM to MLE1?

Thanks

BC Canada Eh!
very little info on this topic out there.
can a new MLE1 be purchased?
is there any reason to look at newer ecm swapping? the PID list for Torque app looks to be aimed more towards 99+ guys
my 97 always read IAT at -40 using Torque

The modern 4-page chips overwrite the PCMs original programming. I think the differences between the various factory programs are fairly minor addressing drivability/durability issues and do far less than any aftermarket tuner chip.

The aftermarket Tuners can write a single performance tune and reburn your factory PCM base program for far better results than a factory tune and it does not cost much either.

That is typical for the lower cost scan tools to not have that PID right.

If you are talking about using a SD PCM in an OBS, then there is rewiring the PCM harness involved. Also, I don't know if anyone has installed a SD PCM and has made the tach work. The ones who have done the SD PCM install did it for performance enhancement (really big power!).

Joey at Terminator Engineering has done it but there were a couple of issues he had not yet worked out (like the tach).

SD PCM also has inputs for tranny input/output shaft sensors (4R100), MAP sensor is an analog output vice our variable frequency to name a couple of additional differences. Cheers!
