Was out plowing last night and dash, radio, windows, and heat died. hit a bump and comes on and off. Truck runs, lights work and dash daq shows power being generated. WTF

Sounds like a short, since these trucks are designed with quick disconnects for fast cab removal my guess is one of those connectors or a pin in one is loose.
I bet it'll be a quick fix good luck.

Try disconnecting the battery and check those connections just an idea as you may find it and fix it that way quick and easy yourself.

Did the battery but was fine for a while and this morning it did it again. My buddy is a ford tech and he told me he has seen the main wire harness that runs on the top of the front driver side spring mount rubbed through on a few trucks. I will have to check there again. Maybe it is time for a new truck. LOL

Alright back from a nice trip to the sunshine state to a foot of snow. Now truck has lost power on cluster, radio, and heat display out but on full blower and no control over it. If I turn truck off and turn key to aux everything comes on but goes out as soon as I start truck.

Alright so far truck ran great yesterday till this morning. Noticed on dash daq that the voltage would jump to 17v and this is when I would loose power to dash. Would this be a voltage regulator or alternator issue. I have read articles about the voltage regulator being in the cluster on older vehicles but nothing on a 2012. guess it has to go to ford.

Damn, how many miles on it? I have a '14 with almost 28k & am just skimming PSA (new to forum) for familiarization of my basically still new to me platform; comin from a 7.3 about a year ago. Glad ya got to the bottom of it and it wasn't more $/time. I friggen hate electrical issues.

You're still good, with just the alternator replacement, right?

You said you were plowing when this first happened.

FYI There is a thread going on over on the TDS forum "2011 up General" on this issue. Seams Ford & GM know about this issue.

It has to do with Cold Weather, Battery Voltage dropping to 11 volts for a split second when you hit the Plow controls. It wipes out / Reset the Dash.

May want to check it out.

Try adding another ground. A bad ground can cause multiple issues like burning up an alternator, slow starts and draining batteries. Just go from the negative to the body or frame.

well back to drawing board. big wiring harness over frame rail behind passenger front tire went up in flames. ground wire mounted to frame at that location melted to a crisp. This is going to hurt. $1k for alternator and new batteries and now this. If I am lucky when I go back to get truck it is burnt to the ground. WTF.
