ok so i have a bunch of issues going on. a little history for you guys. im new to the forum but ive been around the block a time or two.

the history goes like this. i converted a f350 460 cclb 1994 truck in to a powerstroke. i had a high mileage roached out truck of the same year with a powerstroke in it. swapped over everything, underdash wiring, chassis harness fuel lines exhaust system core support and the list goes on.

the issues i am having are all electrical related. my original dash harnes had been spliced and hacked into a bunch. i dont have working brake lights. hit the brake pedal and blows fuse in panel. direct short to ground. cruise control didnt work and the powerwindows would work for awhile and then pop the fuse.

so i sourced a 1997 underdash harness that came out of an automatic truck. i just installed the harness and now i am having more problems. this new harness is in way better shape. it surprised me that it didnt work. so the issues i am having now are:
wipers wont work, cb in fuse panel is hot. ohmed circuit to ground and i have a short.

TPS wont work- found out that the wiring in the 1997 harness is a little different. i think i have the wires figured out to get the signal voltage back to pcm.

now the headlights arent coming on. the running lights light up but the headlights dont work. i need to confirm that bulbs arent roached but they worked with the stock harness.

and the brake lights still pop the fuse as soon as the pedal is pushed.

truck specs. 1994 f350 4x4 cclb gasser converted to powerstroke. i put in a 1996 444e motor. zf5 trans. 1994.5 computer and idm. 1997 dash harness out of an automatic truck.

any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated. im beeting my head against the wall trying to get my truck on the road. if any one has had the same issues or has any clue please do chime in.

thanks for the time guys.

the 97 and 94 underdash harnesses are a lot different, especially at C202 which is the big firewall feedthrough connector (there was a similar post on another forum that I had commented in regarding this ... I'll see if I can locate it). Cheers!

I think you absolutely have to get the EVTM books for both years of trucks off of Ebay to work through all of this.

thanks for the replies, im going to stick the old harness back in and try to chase down the short in the brake lights. i looked at the harness closely and i cant find anything in it that would lead me to beleive that its an issue with the under dash harness. ill look for the evts manuals on ebay. thanks again guys. im sure ill have more questions.

so after working most of the night i found out the short in the brake circuit was from the third light on the rear of the cab. the head light issue is a faulty turn signal switch. ill be ordering a new one. i had two used switches for testing purposes. who new both of them wouldnt work correctly.
I still have the short in the wiper circuit. ive isolated the harnes in the dash and it has a short. im still searching for the culprit. I need to get some more info on the tps wires from a 94 engine harness to a 97 dash harness. i searched and found some info on here but it sounds like the guy who tried it didnt have any luck getting the tps to function after splicing wires. any input on that would be great. feel free to chime in with any ideas thoughts or wiring info. im trying to source the evtm books right now.

Don't know if they currently have them in stock, but I got my 94 and 97 paper versions from Helm Inc. Hands down the best money I ever spent on these trucks. Cheers!

im going to keep looking for them. if im unable to buy my own set hopefully i can get some help on here. alot of the people on here seem to be better about helping rather than just flaming guys who arent all knowing in the ways of the powerstroke trucks.
thanks again.

If you can't find the paper copies of the manuals Ebay usually has a few manuals on disk that have the EVTM's on them and they are a lot cheaper than the paper copies.

havent had the time to look for the manuals just yet. so i have my truck all back together. i stuck the key tumbler back in the steering column. i start up the truck. the wipers and windows dont work with the key on. the only work with the key in the acc position. is it possible to improperly install the key tumbler so the wipers and windows wont function. it surprised me. im pretty sure it has something to do with the key. i had installed the key tumbler the other day and everything functioner properly. pulled the tumbler out to install the plastic trim pieces around the column and now they dont work. im currently at work. ill get home tomorrow and pull the tumbler back out and see what i come up with. any ideas would be great.
thanks alot.

The key connects with a short rod to a switch box located on the steering column under the dash, so the key has nothing to do with it except to position the rod that goes into the switch which then turns on the accessories or the rest of the truck.

ok well i have the electrical issues with the wipers and windows fixed. i really dont want to admit this but it was a self induced problem. in all my hurrying to get my bugs all worked out so i can start driving my truck i plugged the harness connector in to the steering column, however i didnt tighten the bolt to fully seat the plug, and this is what caused the issues with my wipers and windows losing power in the acc position. atleast it was a simple fix. im off to get the motor scanned and a cylinder contribution test done. it idles rough. thanks for the help guys.
