Ok so I pulled my heads on my 7.3 to replace a blown head gasket, while in there I installed 910 comp springs and smith bro's pushrods and will do arp head studs. I didn't touch the cam or turn engine over when I had the heads off, is there anythin special I need to do before I put the heads back on or can I just throw the heads on and torque them down, put in push rods and go?? Is there any valve adj or anything I need to worry about? Thanks for the help

First thing you need to do is go to your local parts house and buy a Chiltons manual for your truck. Follow the directions in there.

I have been working on vehicles all my life, the first thing I still do when I buy a vehicle is get a Chilton's or Haynes manual for it.

However, to answer your questions, I would check the heads and the deck for any warpage, have that corrected. While the heads are off, I would take them to a machine shop and have a valve job done on them. I would also balance all of the combustion chambers while I had them off. After that, just bolt them all back together. Do yourself a favor and also check the flatness of the exhaust manifolds, if not perfectly flat, have them machined also.

Great advice above^

Having the heads checked is cheap insurance. Occasionally a crack can develop and you wouldnt know about it, then you torque the studs down and suddenly you have more problems than before you pulled the head. Replace the valve stem seals while its easy to do as well.

How does the cross hatching looking on the cylinder walls? Generally they are good, but that can tell a lot about a motor by looking at it closely.
