I am starting to collect the parts for my build and can't seem to find any information as to whether or not I need to continue to monitor EOT/ECT when I will have no EGR, coolant filter after a full system flush and ELC used, new oil cooler, and a bypass oil filter. Studs too by the way.

I am thinking with a new oil cooler, clean coolant system, and filters, how likely is it that the oil cooler will clog?

Don't get me wrong, I like the look of having some gauges, and I think CSIPSD
's rig is sweet, but personally, I don't think I want 16 gauges. I will have FP, Water/Meth, EGT, Trans. If I should still keep an eye on it, I'm fine with it, but it's $200 that can be used elsewhere.......

Imho you need to still monitor it as the factorys are dummy gauges. I use my evolution to monitor oil water trans and egt, and have boost and fuel pressure on the a pillar. But i modified the mount for my edge so i could mount it on top of the dash to the right of the steering wheel.

Yes you will still need to monitor it.

Very likely from what I have heard and read about because your coolant filter is only a bypass filter and not a 100% filter for the coolant. The only way you can not worry about EOT and ECT delta is to do an oil cooler delete with BPDs air to oil cooler system.

This is where you really need some sort of monitoring device to cut down on the number of gauges. I mean let's face it you really only need to check EOT and ECT every once it awhile, periodically after you do the rebuild and not monitor it ALL the time. IMO the only parameters that should be stand alone guages are pressure parameters over temperature parameters, with the exception of EGTs because you want to watch those to know how hard you are pushing your vehicle. The rest of the pressures such as fuel pressure, oil pressure, boost pressure, transmission line pressure, HPO pressure, etc. WILL let you know you have a problem if they change where temp changes dont necessarily mean you have a problem but could just be a side effect of some mod or something. Who knows. This is JMO coming from power plant operations where if a pressure goes out of spec, you have a problem. Temps are mostly used for confirming diagnostics IMO. Hope this helps.

I think people freak out about it too much.

You just re-did everything. Just drive the thing and enjoy it. I see TONS of 6.0's rolling down the road all the time. I would be shocked to learn that more than about 5% of owners are constantly monitoring ECT/EOT.

yes, I monitor mine on my 6.4 because I have a monitor! But buying a monitor JUST to monitor them right after you've replaced everything? Not necessary IMO

Does your evolution plug into the OBD port? If so, wouldn't you be getting the same readings for water, oil, and trans as the computer is supplying? I know they have a separate probe for EGT.

Nate, are you using a CTS?

Yes but if you watch the gauge in the cluster it hardly moves when the temperature rises 20 or 30 degrees when its up to operating temp.

I checked mine a lot after doing the coolant flush, cat elc,and coolant filter with new oil cooler. It never got bad again and after severl months I stopped monitering. I decided to check them again this summer(been over a year) and everything was fine with temps. I would say if you do a good enough job flushing then you wouldn't need to moniter since you switched to elc and have a filter. I went way over board on the flushing though.

After doing some reading I'm thinking about a Ford specific scangauge 2 xgauge. It'll monitor EOT/ECT, ICP, IPR, FICM, and some other stuff and I've seen them for $125. Anyone running one?

I'm running a dashboss. Monitors all that plus a lot more. Good option if you have an itouch you don't mind leaving in your truck. It got annoying using my iPhone. I believe it was $175.

This is interesting, I would have to get a iSomething though.

Yeah I lucked out and got an itouch with a busted screen, 15 for a new screen and digitizer. You can monitor twelve parameters at once, and I have yet to see any lag. only really issue I have seen is about once a week one parameter will not read(no false readings, just shows a N/A), but you just go back to the home screen and bring the gauges back up and it's fine. Bought an egt probe and a fuel pressure sensor for 130 to add on.
