hey guys, I'm having my exhaust redone when I get home and since "part" of it won't be of the same material and since the main portion is aluminized I want to paint my entire exhaust....what is the best exhaust paint to choose, heat, etc. and also do they make it in silver?

good idea man....we might have to add that idea to my list....which is cheaper to do?...I'd really like to keep my exhaust silver though.

I used wood stove paint and some self etching primer.

In modification, I used self etching primer and grill paint(black)...

IM guessing you could use engine enamel on the whole exhaust save for the downpipe. That sob might get hot!

I used grille paint on my exhaust I have no and it started to just "flake" off....so I want something that's going to hold better. I found that VHT header paint for 7 bucks a can and would only take about 3 cans....I'm going to completely remove all my exhaust ( minus downpipe ) and paint it all silver and make it look good again....I also have to remove my traction bars and steering stabilizer mount and repaint them since they were painted red....maybe they'll be silver too ;)

My old exhaust system was painted that way for 7 years and the paint didnt flake off...are you sure you used self etching primer before the bbq paint?

The header paint sounds good for your application, more so than black bbq paint.

i would say two cans. one most likley wont be enough, i didnt use a primer the can didnt recomend one plus it probably wont be rated for the same amount of heat. i just cleaned it real good then wire brushed it, if there is any rust make sure you get rid of it and go to town. i did one light coat then two pretty heavy ones. it dried real quick i had it back on the truck in 45 minutes.

I used duplicolor engine enamel on mine, cleaned with brake cleaner, scotch brited it all, cleaned it again, used the grey primer then satin black color coat, only did the back half of the system, its rated to 500, and vht has a primer too, rated to 2000 just like the color
