I just got a SCT with the PIP V6 tunes. I believe it has four levels - tow, street, performance, and extreme. (Going from memory I am not looking at it now)

No where in my paperwork does is mention estimated HP/TQ numbers for each tune.

What is the recommended level for everyday driving on a truck with no other mods other than exhaust and egr block off?

How heavy can you tow before you have to use the tow mode? In my experience most tow tunes are pretty anemic in power gains and are not really necessary unless towing heavy.

Basically I am wondering how hot I can go without tearing stuff up. It seems with the SCT you can't switch on the fly it is a ten minute ordeal. On my old truck the tuner on it had 4 selectable levels where you could adjust on the fly. I am thinking with this truck it will likely get set at one level and stay there.

How often and how heavy do you tow?

There's not really a set guideline per say is the reason I ask.
It just depends on a host of variables imo

My truck probably weighs close to 9000 empty. It has a flatbed, tools, air compressor, transfer tank, etc.

I would say 65% of my miles are empty or with less than 1,000lb of extra crap on the bed.

About 30% of my miles are towing a trailer that weighs 5-6k.

5% of my miles and the heaviest thing I tow weighs about 14k.

I also might add that it is flat as a pancake around here. I never get in the mountains.

Id run performance and call it a day. Im assuming its a dually.
Just use common sense when going heavy.
Id switch to the tow tune when you do go heavy, since you dont do it often changing shouldn't be a huge pain.

I've ran box H&S, SPE Hot X, and now Gearhead tuning and only took it off the performance tune when towing my 13-14k car trailer and haven't had any transmission issues. And I will say that the SPE trans tunes shift pretty hard but they're meant to do that, it is an all out race tune. Been tuned since 3500 miles, so 20k tuned running on performance 98% of the time. My boat isn't too heavy but I tow it on performance tuning as well, probably weighs 5k

My 2015 has about 9k on it delete and on the PIP extreme tunes no problems. Shifts flair ever now and again but that's expected

I'm at 16k miles, tuned since 10k. I go between tow and performance, had it on extreme once and didn't want to buy tires every other month! I've towed on both tow and performance. Pip tunes.

everything you are told is subject to interpretation. I tell all my customers, treat it hard, expect it to grenade. go easy and you have a better chance. there is no science to blown up engines, or blown up trans, but there are way too many variables to nail down one.

its real simple , when you mod your truck to big power, expect the worst , hope for the best. ford built the engine/trans to live at 440bhp , anything above that is ultimately your problem .

I honestly keep mine on tow most of the time, performance for awhile but I hardly rag on it.

What do you guys see your boost levels get to on certain levels towing or not towing?

I can hit 36 on tow tune not towing anything
And 42 hooked up and getting into it
