What would you think the cause would be..? About 3 years ago I flushed the cooling system, replaced the water pump, new hoses (heater, upper lower, bypass), added a coolant filter, heater hose ball valve, thermostat, thermostat housing, rad. cap, and CAT ELC. I thought about replacing the overflow bottle; it was discolored but looked ok. 2 months later it cracked under the seam just below the full line leaving a tiny dribble of coolant. I replaced that one and about a year later cracks formed again in the same spot but coolant level was a little low so nothing leaked out, but don’t know if it is holding pressure. Now just a couple months ago I noticed some cracks forming and was looking for off the shelf options. I was on a road trip a few weeks ago (AL to KS and back) and was playing with the data logging on AE and noticed my temps were creeping up and now and then I could smell coolant. Sure enough I had a small dribble which I patched with JB weld. Been on there about a month and holding well.
All mods are common that would have no way of causing my problem. And the overflow bottles replaced (along with rad. caps) were all Ford OEM and failed in the same spot. Just sounds like crappy plastic products made in Mexico to me.
Regardless I’m making one instead of spending $50+ on a new plastic one. There were a few links to shops that had what I needed posted on Pirate. I recall they had some cool stuff but didn’t bookmark it now I can’t find it. Thanks for the links guys. I’ll post pics of when it’s done.
