Getting ready to do my first oil change this weekend and I'm looking for some feedback. Truck went through full service at the dealer when I bought it but since then I've ******d it so I figure i should change the oil.

What oil is everyone running?
Any odd tools that I'll need?
Any other suggestions?
15 quarts is the correct amount for these trucks?

Thanks guys

I run Motorcraft oil and fiters. i believe thats all my truck has seen except one change with Rotella. Oil is a big topic around, but I've always had good luck running Motorcraft stuff so i'm sticking with it.

A socket for the drain plug and a socket for the filter cap and a funnel. nothing odd.

nope.

yes.

never found an easier vehicle to change oil on.

Buy a Fumoto valve and you have the easiest oil changes possible. You will need a BIG socket or a big crescent wrench to remove the filter cap. Use whatever diesel oil you like. I like 5W40 synthetic, just because I live in MT and it gets cold. If you live somewhere warm 15W40 is fine. Rotella, Delo, Motorcraft, are all good oils. Only use a Motorcraft oil filter or one that you know is the same design. Do a Google search for Ford 6.4 oil filter and you find a video explaining why.

PFL2016 is your oil filter number, its the Racor number. Also, if it doesnt have the stock oil cap, RK31821 is your number.

pick up the Snap-On flip socket for the 6.0/6.4. It does both the oil and fuel filters.

any 15W40 is good.I stick to Mobil products. keep in mind your interval should never exceed 5k miles. Even then this oil will be BLACK.

19MM-3/4 for drain plug and 18 ft lbs on the torque. I'd personally never run the Fumoto on the oil drain, only on coolant. Drain plug has a magnet that I like to clean everytime I drain and also use it to inspect.

Also what should I look for when emptying the water fuel separator. It was dribbling out pretty slow all this same color.

That's fine. That's the only place you want to see water/debris
