Hi all. I have been a lurker for awhile but finally bought a the truck in my sig two weeks ago. I since went on a spending spree and got all the important mods. I changed out the coolant to Rotella ELC. I did the restore / restore plush flush. Before switching I was seeing 3-5 degree deltas. Now I am seeing 8-10 degree deltas. I just drove back 400 miles on the interstate and my temps were EOT 206-208 Ect 196-198 Outside air temps was low 90's upper 80's.

Should I be worrying about 5 extra degrees? I must have loosened some crud up with the flushes. I am planning on towing our 7500 pound boat in a couple of weeks and want to know what you guys think, if I will be ok or not?

I don't really have the extra cash for labor on the oil cooler so I guess I would be doing that if need be. Sometimes having those gauges stare at you can be a pain because I might be over thinking this and becoming a worry wart for nothing.

Thanks in advance,

Kyle

With it being 90-94 outside my EOT sits around 199-201.. My ECT sits around 196-199.7.. Your close in line with me... I'll repost tomorrow where my temps are on a 2 hour drive Towing roughly 9500 lbs..

Thank you, I would appreciate it. It almost seems silly that 5 degrees can make my stomach turn. If I didn't have gauges I wouldn't even be worrying about this.

I flipped out at first after it warmed up and my fuel rail temp went up about 5 degrees higher then what it was with the cooler weather. lol... Watching those temps can make you all nervous and paranoid but if they weren't there we would just move along without a care in the world. Haha

Highest my ect got was 204 and that was only a cpl of times on a cpl of bridges I crossed. ECT mainly hover ed around 197-198. eot maxed out at 210 once or twice on the bridges too aND hung around 204-206.. fuel rail temp maxed at 130 but hovered around 126-128. This was cruising on avg 65 and the temp here at start was 89 and has since climbed to 94..

Thanks for the help. It seems mine is just a tick or two higher. What is the max difference before you go to limp mode?

I hit 220 on my oil temp once and I still didn't go into limp mode. I'm not sure when it does though. My oil cooler is pretty much toast. Normal highway driving unloaded coolant is 194-196 and oil runs around 210-215. Driving around town it hangs around 200-204. I would worry about replacing the oil cooler until you see 10-15 deltas. Edit: just read op again. Looks like you are running around 10 ° deltas. Might want to start saving for that oil cooler.

Well good news, I think. I was able to take a 20 mile run at 62 mph with the a/c off. . It is small rolling hills but my delta's were at 3 for awhile but maintained at 5 consistently ambient air temperature was 70 degrees. I think watching those numbers might have made me more nervous than I needed to be.
