Hi everyone… First time member and poster here, so please excuse any etiquette I am not aware of. If this post is in the wrong place, please direct me! I am preparing to do an engine swap on my ’05 6.0 F350 SRW that blew it’s head gaskets and decided a cracked head would compliment the situation nicely. Truck is all stock/not studded and had a massive oil leak before hydrolocking itself, so it just makes sense to start fresh with it. This is a 4x4 truck with auto trans. Basically what I’m looking for here, is to absorb as much knowledge as possible from those of you who have done the same procedure at home without access to a lift. I have an assembled long block from Asheville Engines being delivered in a couple of weeks and want to be prepared as much as possible. I did find this short write-up which makes the process sound pretty straightforward: https://www.powerstroke.org/threads/engine-r-r-write-up.57123/ In my head this job is broken up into 3 stages – Engine Removal, Disassembly of old and swapping parts to new, and then the re-installation. The part I would probably need the most direction in, is that 2nd stage… With that in mind, please feel free to chime in with any “gotcha’s” that come to mind, and leave me a link to any other write-ups/videos etc. that I should take a look at. This will not be the first time pulling/installing an engine for me, (V8 swap into a Ranger, but different topic….) but definitely the first with a diesel. Really hoping I can get this thing out and back in without lifting the cab. Here are some questions that first come to mind:

6.0 engine lift plates…Is this absolutely necessary or is this just for convenience? If so, which design is the best, or will any design work? I’m not nuts on the thought of spending $200 on something I’m going to use one time..
Any “must have” tools or specialty tools you found were necessary?
I plan on re-using any components that are good off of the old engine. assuming all parts are good, are there any components that are “must haves” for you, that make sense to replace anyway? I know there are probably a number of parts that are one-time use anyway, but not sure where to start when looking for these. I do plan on doing 8 new injectors, EGR delete, standpipes/plugs and an oil cooler if the old one looks bad.
Bonus: has anyone installed an Asheville rebuilt 6.0? Anything specific I should know?
Any info, links, comments, etc. are very welcome.
