Are 7.3 flex plates interchangeable from one engine to another weather its a stock engine or a built engine that is balanced.

Is there anything in writing that will show that. Machine shop that did my engine is still trying to say you can not change them. And I think he is trying to point the finger at someone else . Long story short my built motor vibrates....

Like anything hanging on the end of the rotating assembly. If it was balanced with one flexplate, and then you change it, it could affect the balance of the motor. I did not think that the motor should have originally been balanced with a flexplate on it.

If you internally balanced the engine, you need a 0 balanced flexplate. If the rotating assembly was balanced with a factory flexplate, then any ford flexplate will (should) work fine.

A 0 balance flexplate has no weight slug on it.

I don't have anything in writing. Just the fact the the first time I rebuilt the motor, they used the SB clutch to balance. And when I changed clutches, I need to put a slug on the new one to match the weight and balance of the SB clutch.

Next build went 0 blanced (internally) and have been running a 0 flexplate for 30k. 20k with a modded Ford plate, 10 k with a billet. I have the Ford plate if you need it for testing, but would not want you to drive with it.

I had a engine built. Ever since it was finished it had a vibration. We pretty much narrowed it down to the engine. The machine shop guy is pretty much blaming everyone else. He even thinks we used a different flex plate than the one we gave him. He made me take my truck to his guy and he said it was not a balance issue it was bad injectors. Had them sent out and really done still it vibrates.

I'm Just trying to get everything in writing. I'm probably taking him to court.

Go to Ford and have them give you a PN#/ compatibility, that should hold up in court.

Yesterday the machine shop said the balance was perfect. No drilling was needed. He even took to second balance person to confirm it was correct. He still says we used a different flex plate and still blaming us.so I called him up and told him he was lieing and I had proof.than he says yeah the balance guy did redrill crank.so I had someone call the balance person and he said he never touched it.both are lairs.

So now my motor is at a new machine shop.

What a mess. Sounds like you made the right move.

Hang in there, there will always be obstacles. You just gotta learn from them and keep pushing in the right direction.

How much did you spend trying to fix the vibration?

So they basically didn't balance it the first time, and it needed to be? Then they checked the balance the 2nd time, said it didn't need balanced and that they didn't touch it, but they drilled holes in the crank? Now they are saying that its your fault that they didn't balance it correctly the first time?

Too much
Had injector rebuilt
Now motor is out again having pay for the removal of engine plus paying to have it put back in and it's at a new machine shop ill be paying for that.

Pretty much we think it was not even balanced the first time. In the top pic it clearly looks like a stock crank. When the machine shop took engine for the second time they told us the crank was perfect no balance issues. They did not have to drill it. When I told them I had pics of before & after both there stories changed . Balance guy told me he had to touch up crank with the new/ different flex plate we provided. That was that same flex plate from the very beginning there are still trying to say we used a different flex plate each time.
