ok so heres my question as above, Which would be easier and what not the forged rod swap or a engine swap with way engine will have to come out. when i do this ill refresh the engine probably new bearings all around and id also like to do new push rods and head studs.
what would be my best bet?
which is going to be easier and more cost effective?
pros and cons one over the other?
i plan on doing all the work myself.
if i just do the rod swap what will need to go to the machine shop the rods, to fit piston or crank?

The crank will need to be machined and you will need to buy the appropriate rod bearings.

It won't be near as much work to do a full engine swap, unless you have to pull the engine out of the other truck. And if I were going to tear one down enough to pull the crank, I would go ahead and have the block and heads machined also. That's just me though.

ok ya well im looking at buying one its already apart. but if i use mine it was rebuilt about 30,000 ago or so so just new bearings probably.
what all would one need just an engine hoist and stand? plus tools?
Is $250 a good price for block, heads, crank, and rods?

The price on the core sounds right. Since you just had the motor rebuilt I wonder if you could remove and reinstall the pistons from the bottom so you wouldn't have to break the seal on the HG's. Also if it is ok to remove a piston and install it back in with the same rings and no rehone on the bore.

By the time he pulls the one in the truck apart and has it machined and all that jazz he could have rebuilt the other one he has and been time ahead.

Check with a vendor who builds motors and ask them If you can just flip it on a stand and swap the rods out without pulling the heads. If they say no then I would build the spare that you have and sell the one out of the truck as a runner.

If you find a cheap short/long block that is in good condition for cheap get it rebuild it and swap it in. If it were me I would just swap the rods out and put new bearings and ect in. I wouldn't want to break the head gasket seal that is just me though
