..HELLMANS SUMP..so i have the dreaded 1/8th take ordeal..was looking at the fuel draw straws but they say there a little problematic..anyone have this? looks pretty promising. and lucky me i only have 4 bolts in the bed since the airdog install incase something went south later on..looks like ill be doing this..but heres the kicker, ive heard of the harpoon mod but do not know exactly how its done...i have the airdog 150 so im guessing ill be leaving the 5/8 line i had to drill to put in the tank..when i disconnect this, any ideas of how i can use this for a vent so i dont have to stand at the pump for an extra 15mins topping it off??

It's tough to tell from your post but I gather you're looking for opinions on the Hellman sump? And looking for tips on the harpoon mod as well? You realize one doesn't have anything to do with the other, right? Just making sure.;)

Joe's sump is a nice piece. In case you didn't realize, you don't have to drop the tank to install his sump. He did a revision to the inner ring awhile back that allows you to install the sump with the tank still in the truck. Pretty slick. If you have a skid plate, you will have to either drop the skid plate an inch or so, or you will have to make a hole in it to clear the sump. Either way, make sure you keep your fuel lines tucked up tight to the tank and frame to avoid exposing them to road hazzards and stuff you might encounter off road.

As far as the harpoon mod goes, a quick search on this site or on google will tell you more than you wanted to know about it. It's pretty straight forward, but does require dropping the tank. In a nutshell, you are basically shortening the nipple on the vent hose that extends into the tank an inch or two.

appreciate the reply..and yes i know they are 2 different things, but as far as the hellman sump goes, i would be re-routing my airdog hose from the top to the bottom correct? well on the airdog 150 you have to drill a hole in the top of the tank to insert a 5/8s stainless tube into the tank that the airdog gets its fuel from..now when this hellmans sump is installed, what am i going to do with that 5/8s line that goes all the way down into the tank? could i use it as a vent like the harpoon mod since it would be virtually useless? hope this is more clear.

I would take the draw straw out and plug the hole. The less holes you have in the top of your tank, the less chance you have of getting water or debris in or leaking fuel out.

The harpoon mod is a GREAT mod as I have done it but it only helps fill the tank faster because the vents are chopped off at the top of the tank. It is straight forward. I also recommend just plugging the hole of the top of the tank if you go with a sump.
