Anyone out there running a sump, with a transfer tank plumbed into the main tank...

I have mine set up to gravity feed from the 110 gallon tank to the main tank via a 1/4" fuel line. It stops itself via pressure between the filler neck and the cap...

My concern with a sump is I dont know how much pressure that fuel load puts on the tank, will a sump start to leak over time or will it be ok?

Anyone running this set up or similar?

I like the idea of the sump, but not sure...

I have the same setup you do with the extra tank. I too have inquired about this. From what I've gathered, as long as you prep your tank for some good rtv you should be fine. I think I'd use some international grey on it.

Joe, these dumps are good kits. I don't think you will hav an issue. I love the thought of a sump over a pickkup tube

i was thinking sump also but i didn't think it would be a good idea on the farm or in the woods... so i did the 5/8" pickup... the sump is better for flow. i also have a rear in bed tank but i plumed in a old super duty fuel pump with a toggle switch to fill the stock tank.... note to self don't forget to pay attention to the fuel gauge and shut it off... if not, its possible to spray diesel all over the yard threw the fill cap... going down the road it makes a big mess too...

Hence the reason for gravity feed.

I'm still kicking it around... I built the 5/8 pick up, but have not installed it yet, I stole the sump out of Joe's truck before I left just to give me options, but I guess I will have to pay him for it if I use it...LOL

Hence the reason for gravity feed.

As the saying goes...

"set it and forget it...."

LOL

Yeah i know but the tank i bought doesnt have a drain port in the botom anywhere to plum in a valve or run a hose with... so i capped the hole that you would put a actual pump in and drilled a hole in the cap... ran 5/16 break line threw the hole to the bottom of the tank for a pickup tube... then plummed in the sd pump to a clear inline filter then to the breather tube to the stock tank... all this done in a parking lot of a hotel... thought it was a genius idea at the time until the first time i forgot it was on going down the freeway....

Sumps!!!!

After having run a sump now, I wouldn't go back.to a pick.up tube. They work as advertised. No worries about leaks.

Don't have the transfer setup you asked for...But...FWIW...-40 to plus 80F...IH gray RTV plus TSD sump has equaled zero leaks for me. I've also had good luck so far running a Fuel Lab as a DD...maybe I'm lucky, or the positive pressure the sump provides is doing something there....time will tell I guess.

Joe,

A while back we figured something out real similar to this on the vegistroke forum. We were talking about putting a sump on the 51 gallon tanks we use in bed, and someone was trying to figure out how much pressure a full tank of WVO would be adding, it was virtually nothing. I don't think you have anything to worry about. As long as you seal it well it should be fine. I don't see your larger tank really adding any pressure above what's already there, it's still feeding through a 1/4" line, it's not like the entire weight of the 110 gallons is pushing on that sump.

Go for the sump, you won't regret it. I ran a 60 gallon spare fuel tank plumbed into my factory tank via gravity feed and have had zero issues with my sump. They are awesome. I run mine down to literally no fuel in the tank and it never sucks air.

FWIW I go off road in my truck quit a bit and because the sump is so close to the tank, it really isn't in the way of getting ripped off or anything like that. If you was to scrape it on something, you more than likely would mess up other stuuf too, i.e. brake lines snagged, axles bottomed out.

I like the looks of Alligators sump, you don't have to drop the tank for install. Though you could probably just mod any of the other sumps out there to work the same way easy enough.

When i did some price comparing when i was thinking about a sump, BEANS has the cheapest one.... they all look and are built relitively identical to each other... most kits are installed without dropping the tank.

This is the one I stole out of Joe's truck...LOL

Only thing I am concerned with is there may be something else coming out in the near future, would hate to cut my tank and then like this new idea better...

How long do you have to wait for the silicone to dry before you fill your tank back up?

Well it's gonna dry all weekend. I just don't see how it's not gonna leak. Maybe I'm just too scared lol. We'll see Monday if it leaks.
