Just curious of what future holds for diesels with all the emissions crap. Like, how can you tune a "deleted" truck in the future? Obviously to me big company's won't be able to do so due to cost of huge fines. So will smaller local shops be the way to go? I don't think I'd ever own a newer diesel without taking all that junk off. If I were to purchase a new truck is their ways around this? Feel free to PM me if you don't feel comfortable posting publicly.

I'm hoping some new technology will come through and change the game to where we won't need dpf's and such anymore. May be far fetched but I've read lots of things that could help like 100,000+ psi injection systems; different engine configurations like opposed pistons; valve trains controlled by pneumatic or electronic actuators replacing cam shafts; and adding a super charger for instant spool up.

I just find it crazy that everything about human technology has changed so much over the past 50 years except the internal combustion engine lol. Something has got to give. Personally I would like to give the EPA the boot but that's not gonna happen

Itd br cool if some one made a gutted dpf that had a straight pipe in it but from the outside looked lile a dpf

That's be the easy part. I'm curious as to how can you get a hold of something like a Mini Maxx for a deleted truck? Like who could/does now? Or in future?

Ahh yes I've seen that video, def cool technology. But if EPA says they still have to have a DPF/EGR or similar devises who can/is making something to tune deleted trucks?

Read an article posted by Diesel Power Mag recently about John Deere's new engine lines requiring no DPF, only EGR and SCR

Well if someone wanted to delete that crap who could tune it? Or on what platform?

If one can program a computer then someone can hack it. This same thing occurred in 96 when OBD-II came out. Then someone hacked that. It was a big step because of crank and cam positioning sensors that would set a fault code once a cam was installed along with O2 sensors after the cats to make sure they stayed installed. Look up Casper O2 Eliminators and see what happened to them. I still have a set in my tool box from before all the hacking started in my 96 Impala.
I think a diesel will sooner or later will have a variable valve timing like a gasser. That way the entire smog thing could be more controlled. During the RPM and MPH the smog tests are performed then the engines would shine then in the power range they could also.

It's all bs to me, if john deere can scrap the dpf and cummins can scrap the egr, than how useful is any of the emissions chit?
