im runnin 40s on my 97, i looked at the door panel and found out there is only 3.55 gears in it and my speedometer is 10mph off so what gears do you guys think would get me closer to the 3.55 ratio with the 40s. i have the zf5 tranny. also it has open diffs and im looking to get the gears and automatic locking diffs the same time. does anyone have any suggestions on what i should get or what works well.:shocked:

Good looking truck...

Few things...

Gear change will NOT change your speedo reading, you will have to get the GEM module flashed to change that, or someone with AE to change it for you (I cant recall if AE can do that on a OBS right now)...

With the ZF5 I would not go much bigger then a 4.10... I have only driven one OBS with a ZF5 and one thing I notice is it runs out of RPM's pretty soon in the 75mph range (the one I am driving has 35ish tires on it).

I have a true trac in my truck and I love it. Cant even tell its there unless you spin a tire. You just dont spin a tire anymore!

I can't make a comment regarding the gear ratio, other than take a look at this site;

As far as lockers, if you live a climate where snow is prevalent for a considerable time use a selectable locker. an open differential offers more control for general driving on snow and ice, but with a flip of a switch you can lock both wheels together as needed.

As soon as both wheels spin on ice, the crown in the road is enough to get a sideways slip going.
