Please forgive me if this is the wrong forum I'm new around here. I'm going to look at a 1994 powerstroke tomorrow. The ad looks great and everything the guy put in it about the truck was positive except for two things. He said it "smokes" and "needs new injectors." Am I looking at a problem? Are the injectors related to the smoking. I appreciate all the help guys thank you.

Depends on the smoke, for rebuilt injectors it's about $1200 worst case scenario. If the trucks still worth it with that then go for it.

When you look at it, see if you can pull the fuel filter off of it. If its black then it might just be the injecter o-rings.

Also more info on the smoke, what color? White, light blue, gray, and black can all meet different things. Whether it smokes on cold start and gets lighter, is it all the time, just when lugging etc. all will help determine what it is.

Smell the coolant for a diesel smell, make sure there's no oil in it, and no coolant in the oil.

What's the mileage on it?

Just a few things to look at to help diagnose, hope it helps. Post up what you find!

One thing about a 94 is to make sure that it is a DI engine and not a IDI. There were 3 engines offerered in 94. A IDI, a IDI Turbo, and a DI Turbo. It wasn't badged Powerstroke until 95.

If it's a 94 with automatic it's not a PSD. Only 5-speeds and PSD in 94. The 8th digit of the VIN will be an "F" for a PSD. Cheers!

Ok so I'm actually looking at a pretty big bill to either rebuild or replace the injectors? Around $1200? I didn't know injectors were that much. If I decide to go look at it I'll let you all know what color the smoke is. Thanks again for all the help.
