on my way back home from oktoberfest in lacrosse wisonsin, climbing a 4 mile hill they finally let go. been waiting for that to happen for quite some time though, was pushing 35psi boost pulling 12,000lbs.
so basically, going to pull it apart in a couple weeks, oil cooler, egr delete, studs, couple of bad injectors and a small turbo of some sorts.
anything else i should be looking for or do?
what turbo should i go with? will just be stock fuel. dont want to spend any more that 1500 on turbo and be a drop in vgt.

Coolant filter kit with a new oil cooler! Judge by those temps, yours is probably smoked

Sucks man. Did you have the race car in tow?

While doing heads

Coolant filter
Blue fuel spring
Metal cac tube off of 03 or 04
Injector o rings
Bullet proof oil cooler
Bullet proof egr
Stc fitting up grade
If you are gonna run stock injectors or 155s then a stage one mtw turbo
6.4 banjo bolts
New radiator hoses and coolant hoses
Maybe billet rods if you wanna tackle that

I can guarantee you the op isn't gonna need billet rods lol. He's a race car owner/driver. If he wants speed he will get it at the track. I'm positive he's after a solid tow build for this one.

Well since you already have it apart then you might as well do billet rods. Its only gonna help him, nothing wrong with it.

Probably gonna need heads with those temps, I'd think they will be cracked.

For $2700 what's it gonna help him at 450hp? I know what you are trying to say but it doesn't apply here. He isn't gonna push this truck past tow rig and you can't use anything over 450hp anyway without tearing every bit of the drivetrain up in the process.

Doing head gaskets does not require a teardown far enough to accommodate changing rods. He doesn't need billet for his build.

155/30s with a 62fmw. end of thread

I was thinking 362fmw as well. OP, how dead set are you on a drop in vgt? Have you considered non-vgt as an option?

Well at least you are ready to fix it!!

Pmax is a good drop in but really it isn't much of a gain over stock for the money. The ball bearing set up is nice though. But for a tow rig your not gonna need too much anyway. You doing all eight injectors? Staying stock size?

Forget my testing, just slap some 6.4 compounds on there, and 155's, you wont be disappointed!

All joking asside, the OP stated earlier he wanted to keep stock injectors. A custom tow tune and any one of the comparable drop in VGT turbo's should be adequate for a tow vehicle, no?

Oh absolutely it would be more than adequate. We're just throwing out options since he'll have it apart, that's the best time to try to experiment unless he's like some that will swap stuff out even when they're working just fine.
