I just got my 6.4 back together after cracking piston. After i drive it for a while and shut it off it wont start back up. The starter doesnt fully engage it just keeps clicking in and out. It doesnt always do it other times it will start right up. If it sits for atleast an hour it starts everytime..

I thought the starter was getting hot off the motor heat so i replaced the starter and it still does it. Any ideas please??

Whats the batt voltage and did you do a voltage drop check of the cables. Mostly check all the grounds since you just pulled the cab/motor.

Rivets are the new duct tape.

My truck has a random no start issue. No clue where ot came from but it would stutter trying to run the starter kind of like the sound it makes when the battery is about to die.

Check all your grounds. Clean the face between the back cover and where the starter bolts on. And make sure the front ground is clean and tight on the block.

Did you check the main engine grounds? Also did you clean up the starter itself along with its mounting surface?

Also check and double check your battery connections and starter connections. This is likely gonna be something really simple once we get it figured.

Also make sure the plug near the passenger battery tray is pushed all the way together. Starter ground is on the same side. That's given me issues before.

Near the right side battery. Single wire yellow and brown with a disconnect in it. It goes to the 'S' terminal on the starter solenoid.

the best thing to do is if it wont start, unhook the wire and jump it to the positive on the battery, it should start right away if not then you know you have a power or ground issue to the starter, or the energize wire is loose/broken/smashed

Smashed. Way smart. It would pass a continuity test but not voltage drop.

Was in a parade lastnight and truck didnt want to start when we were lining up. Very embarrassing! Could it be somethinh in the steering column because since i put my cab down the horn or cruise or radio controls dont work in the wheel...
