I found some rims I'm interested in... they are 12.5" wide and have 8" of backspacing... so let me know if this seems right and can I run these on an 08"????

12.5" wheel, 8" BS means 4.5" of offset correct?

What worries me is the 8" of backspacing, will these work/clear on an 08' setup?

That is an odd wheel.

A 'normal' after market 12" rim for 05+ SD has a 5.5" BS = to -25mm (-1") Offset
Those measurements results in a +31.5mm (1.25") Offset.

There are a number of sites that explain the differences and correlation of Offset to Backspace.

Betarocker,

Thanks for that web page. If my understanding is correct then this wheel will not stick out very far from the truck??

I'm looking for something that will stick out far as i can. Been tough considering there aren't many 16.5 x fairly wide rims in a 8x170 BP what will stick out.

Less back space and negative offset is going to stick out more.

If you want it sticking out a lot, get something with 4.5-5" back spacing.

Bump, so is 4.5" of backspacing enough to clear the rotors with a 16.5'' or 17" rim? I really want a 16.5 because it gives me alot more options for tire size (boggers)
