Hi,
My husband drives a 2008 F-350 6.4L 32V Power Stroke Turbo Diesel V8.
Yesterday it dies on the highway. I towed it off and we tried to start. Won't turn over just clicks. SO we get a new battery and now it turns over but won't start. Any other suggestions? He added oil, tried Quick Start. It almost started but felt like it wasn't getting there.
He is pretty handy - carpenter but not a mechanic. We are trying to fix ourselves to keep the cost down as he just went back to work and money is tight.

Location
Southeast Texas
If it died while driving it could be a few things. The alternator could have gone out and then once the batteries were drained it finally shut off. You may have to cycle the key several times to get the fuel system primed back up. You could have lost your high pressure fuel pump or the frame mounted fuel pump. You really need to have a scanner hooked to it to check for trouble codes.

Quick start is a bad idea on a diesel with glow plugs.

Again location would be helpful.

Sounds like someone else in here had it right - alternator went for a dump, and there was a loss of prime for some reason.

Scanning for codes is a first.

This is a very complicated engine management system and can be somewhat difficult to diagnose without the proper diagnostic equipment.

Changing parts can get quite costly.

I am in the SW Ontario, Canada area f that's of any use.

We are in Pickering, ON. The truck is in East end of Toronto. If someone know a reliable mechanic in Scarborough, please let me know!

Thanks everyone - it was a faulty sensor and some corroded wiring - covered by warranty thankfully!
