I've come seeking advice from owners about common issues/things to look out for on the 6.4.

My buddy is looking at a CCLB 6.4L as his first diesel. He's going to be doing hot shotting services with it.

The truck is a trade in from an older couple, who I'm assuming owned it since new. From what I understand truck is stock. The stealership is also pushing a 2 yr/unlimited KM warranty with the truck. Truck has under 100k kms on it iirc.

So anything obvious we should be looking for? I'll drag my code reader with me and see if there's any stored codes.

my job 2 08 has almost 175k on the original radiator...

radiator problems are typically caused by lack of correct venturi T update and thermostats hanging open.

you can check engine hours on the dash

you'll need to find a Ford employee who can run the OASIS for you. It's a report that tells all about the truck and its dealer service history

Will it show any recall work that has been done/is pending?

Also can I just walk into a ford dealership and say 'I want an OASIS report, here is $some amount of money?'

Strokethis34 can run an Oasis report for you. Just send him the VIN.
Check the vin, the last 7-8 digits or so, there will be a EA-EB is Job 1 EC-ED is job 2 EE-EF is Job 3 try to stay away from Job 1 its the most problematic.
Let the truck warm up and run this piss out of it. Remember its not yours...yet
Make sure it gets to full operating temp and leave it running after you cone back.
Check the whole front radiator area for leaks and check the underside for oil leaks on the engine or suspension. Check for tranny leaks as well.
Check tires for any wear there may be and check the exhaust pipe color. If its sorta a redish color then its suffered some extreme exhaust temps. Also, even tho its 'stock' if the inside of the pipe is black, its had a tuner on it.

take the oil fill cap off with the engine running and see how much smoke comes out. look for dried coolant on or around the degas bottle (looks like muddy water) check on the firewall above the turbos as the fan blows it back there. smell the engine oil dipstick and see if there is a strong diesel smell.
