Didn't get many looks down in the audio section so i thought i would try posting here . First of some information my truck is an 08 Lariat with the 6 disk changer sat. radio and has steering wheel controls . i am interested in upgrading to a nav unit of some sort . My options that i have been looking at are an 08 nav. system (probably the least hassle to install but not as many features as say an 09 nav. system with SYNC or aftermarket system , cheapest too . 2nd an 09 system with SYNC , there's a guy that has a vid on youtube that did the swap and was going to possibly make a wiring harness adapter kit to do the swap , but i haven't seen anything about the kit or herd of anyone installing it . A little more expensive unit to buy and will need to purchase the adapter harness if it's made . I would like this option the most . 3rd would be an aftermarket unit . the most expensive and i don't know if it will work with the sat. radio or the steering wheel controls . So i would like to here from everyone the pros and cons of each possibility .

you would have to buy adapter harness to install the aftermarket stereo if you have the factory sub, it cost more and also another harness to keep your steering wheel controls, only reason im still running a broken stock unit

If you go online to Crutchfield they will throw in an adapter for the steering wheel controls at no cost. I got a bunch of other install stuff for for free also. Bit pricier but fast, free shipping and awesome customer call centers for install help. The steering wheel controls were offered for my 93 XL LOL LOL

I just picked up a Pinoeer touch screen from Crutchfield myself. It doesent have the GPS option, but I did look at one that did and I believe it was around $750 which did not seem all too terrible. I've had great luck with Crutchfield and as Ad8 mentioned above, they send you a pile of free installation stuff to make it very easy and they ship same day. All the adapter harness' are really easy to wire in and that Pioneer unit is awesome! Just figured I'd throw that out there.

I just bought a sony xav-601bt at best buy for 549 and I like it so far + you get nav that syncs from your phone. I would have just kept factory nav unit had it not **** the bed on me. Ford wanted 285 to inspect 900 for the part that we pretty much new was bad + labor on istalling that.

I know i am one of the few people that don't have an I-Phone so using it for nav. or anything else is out for now. i thought there were some guys on here that used an 09 nav. unit with sync.

I have a pioneer AVIC-D3. It's about 3 years old, but I really like it. Plus it's bypassed so I can watch movies or put in NAV info while driving.
