Wife's 05, has HIDs in it now. 8000k. Lost a bulb a while back, put in a 6000k I had lying around from her old truck. Now other side is out. Kit was hongkong stuff from previous owner. It lasted a few years. I've got a 5000k kit from Retro that I pulled off my 08, so I could put bulbs from that, or the whole kit for that matter. But I'm kind of tired of fooling around with these HID kits. Beam pattern generally sucks, and it seams like reliability isn't there either.
So... She wants to keep the HID look (color), so what bulbs would you recommend. Not much available locally. I put silverstar ultra's in my 08, but they certainly don't look like HIDs.

I went back to normal headlights in my Tacoma and will in the Dually when they start giving me problems. I blew the 3rd ballast in the Tacoma and got tired of it. Yea it is covered but the time to take it out send it in and wait sucks.
I just put Silverstars in. I will make a headlight relay kit for it when i get time to get more amps to them.

Pulled out the bulbs, one was blown as suspected. Unhooked the HID stuff and put the stockers from my 08 in for now. Going to get different bulbs eventually.

Keep in mind any bulbs with a colour coating will have a reduced life span, due to extra heat retention in the bulb/filament. I haven't had any model Silverstar last more than a year-year and a half on any of my vehicles. More light (heat) output + bulb coating = not for me.

Still running the included no-name China bulbs that came in my Harley headlights from eBay. 3.5 years on these bulbs so far...
