Im wanting to pressurize the high pressure oil rails in the heads and I'm wondering which pump is used. Model number and such would great. I'm hoping to narrow down my issue. Thank you!

Take a look at this....

http://www.transcat.com/catalog/productdetail.aspx?itemnum=7103P

It comes with hose and gauge and supports up to 3000 PSI. With optional hose, you can run up to 6000 PSI. You'll need to make a fitting for the head, but that can be achieved fairly easily. The only drawback is that at $352.00, it's pretty pricey for the casual user.

You can use other pumps as well, like the kind used for auto body frame repair. Something like this:

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200485073_200485073?cm_mmc=Aggregates-_-Nextag-_-Hydraulics>Pumps-_-18545

They're available from Northern Tool pretty cheaply... Around $70.00, but you'll need a valve and fittings to relocate the gauge on the engine side of the valve. All in all though, you should be able to build one for about $125.00.

Thanks Bill! The Northern Tool one looks good! I already have an analog gauge that goes into the head. Could I I just pump and monitor with the analog gauge? Also is there fluid in that pump line or air? I'm assuming hyd fluid. Wouldnt it contaminate the oil?

Just pour out the hydraulic oil and replace with engine oil. It'll work just fine. Make sure to fit some wort of valve to close off the pump. It *shouldn't* leak back, but if it does it would make the whole test process useless.

I just used a lincoln hand pump at orieleys for 20 bucks or so. Had a local shop make a hose with a couple of swivel ends and voila. Lot cheaper that way.

Results: Pressurized the drivers side head. Pumped up to 3000 and it dropped to 2500 in a minute and thirty seconds. Is this a pass or a fail? Pump was put in the HPOP port and the monitoring gauge was put in the ICP port. Passenger side has not been done yet.

I would call that a pass. I couldn't get mine to hold anything above 300psi for more than a few seconds. What kind of problems are you having?

Here's my thread: http://powerstrokearmy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28509

Last time I drove the truck I was pulling an empty enclosed 6x12 cargo trailer. Doing 60 ICP was at 1670 ish and duty cycle was maxed out. 68% I think was max.

Just did the passengers side and from 3000psi down to 2500psi took a minute and twenty two seconds. Next is a new IPR. If that doesn't fix then the HPOP is getting sent out to get checked. If that checks out then I guess it's time for injectors.

Sounds like you are on the right track. The only thing you can't test in the truck is the upper poppet seat on the injectors. Well, I guess you could but it would get technical. I would also guess that with the lower seat sealing so well, the uper seat should be close to the same.

Just read your other thread. Cold engine oil WILL mask leaks. I would do the test warm if you want results you can trust.

Using warm oil would be interesting but you appear to have a passing result. You can easily build pressure against orings/poppets and hold. Looking at pump now?

Has a different known good IPR been tried yet?

Gonna fire the truck up Tuesday and get it warmed then test again. New IPR is on the way. If that don't fix it pump is getting sent out. What sucks is Matts tunes should be here tomorrow or Tuesday!
