I have a Dieselsite system. They recommend changing every 3 months for the first 9 months, then once per year after that.

sinisters kit says filter 1 is changed at 300 miles, filter 2 is changed at 5k and then filter 3 is changed at the end of the year, Then you change the filter 1 time a year after that.

What if i just put a new oil cooler in and new coolant and only drove it maybe 500 miles before i put the coolant filter on?

The filter is designed to get the casting sand out if the block. It has nothing to do with the coolant and the oil cooler. So I'd change it per manufactures recommendations anyway

one thing you could probable do is by hand check the temperature of the incoming line vs the out going line.

If you feel a big difference in temperature between the two then the filter is probably due for changing.

Otherwise change it a couple times often after initial install, then once a year or so after that like everyone said.

change it...cut it open after you do...you will be :shocked::shocked:

I did this w my first filter...I added the filter before I did studs and swapped to zxed-1.

I found absolutely nothing aside of a little metal from cutting it open. I was ecstatic. Lol

Lucky you...150k miles when I installed fine. System had bad 2 flushes in that time and it was still full of sand.

Yep you're right...I chalked it up to luck....and I blamed my blown gaskets on driver error Lol....but I'm sure they were on their way out...I'd been running some pretty hot tunes

After my first one its been clean and I've never felt a temp change before and after but I do change it ever 12-14 months just to be safe.

It's a casting sand thing you can't determine by age or mileage some just have it worse than others

now silicate drop out from the coolant can be higher mileage and the filter should grab the goo to alert you to do something about that however it's a little late by then the cooler may already be plugging

The 24070 wix filters are like 6 or 7 bucks at napa man just change it whenever. As cheap and quick as it is I don't see why people worry about a set schedule.
