About how many miles on a 7.3 is too many?

In other words , when is the mileage a concern for reliability?

At stock power levels, I'd not worry. If it runs it runs. The thing is, you have to wonder when injectors, hpop, and other stuff was done. I personally wouldn't give a crap.knowing what I've done to mine in th 265k I've had it, I'm amazed it runs. At all!

Knowing what you know, if you can look at one and its got 300+ I'd negotiate a set of stg1 sticks into the true cost of buying it. Also hpop, hpo lines, glowplugs, gp relay. A fuel system probably would be wise too as the old lines, fittings, and pump are degrading. It's my the motor that is the issue it's EVERYTHING else. You would need good receipts negotiate a deal. Also, things like brake components could be at the end of their service life.

Hmm, well I'm looking at a truck with 300k on the motor. So I'm more or less worried if its going to pop on me

Why is the trans slipping? How old is the seller? Is it some kid that tuned it, beat the scit out of it, and is now selling it cause its falling apart?

He says he's selling it to buy a new truck, unsure of the age of the seller

It is tuned. Exhaust, intake

I paid 4800 for mine from the original owner with 124k on the clock. Well taken care of stock truck, except for a run in with a tractor tire. There is no way I would pay much more then $2k for one with over 300k on it in rough shape. If the trans is slipping you might as well consider it a non-running truck.

Exactly! Figure up what it's going to cost to get it to running/driving condition. Then subtract that from what he's asking. I bet it'll be less than 2grand. The trucks only worth 4 if it was in perfect shape. 90k mile injectors? Those are probably in need of rehab. If he doesn't have service records it's a worn out vehicle.

Somewhere down in Texas..
Gotta watch it though on deals like Tyrone is talking about. They can get a little sticky...tires, trans, paint, shlt you may end up walking away from that deal with a truck, and $7k in your pocket...
