Anyone?

Pulled the dash apart to find the wires to disable it, but I see nothing back there but HVAC and speaker and such...

Just want to pull it out, and unplug it. This way my wife can put the car seat in the front seat of the Excursion.

Help please!

It is not... The X-cabs have a switch to disable it... The CC and Excursions do not. The only reason not to is because of the air bag, disable the air bag and there is no reason.

What Beta said but at the same time I don't know if it will work without the right GEM..
You may just have to trace the wires to see if it just a normally open or normally closed switch.

my 04 ccsb doesnt have the switch but it has the plug if i wanted to add the selector.

but there are 2-4 bolts that hold it in. if you drop the glove box and look up theyre gold nuts on mine. you should also be able to unplug it from under there iirc

How about possibly adding a disabling mechanism like on the SuperCab?

Thats the plan, but my daughter came a bit early (6 weeks) and I procrastinated... Now I am leaving again next week.

I'll have to try it on Wednesday. Just replaced all the dash lighting and the 4x4 one is not working, so back to Napa for one more 74 bulb and to pull the damn thing apart again.

Drop the glove box. 2 8mm bolts facing straight down. Push it towards the seat from there and one plug on the back. Hope it helps.

On edit. Or it will be very close to something like that. Sometimes I dont remember exactly from rangers to f150s etc.. but they all come apart about the same way.

:whs: And if you find a single cab XL, you can get a new panel and totally remove the air bag, which is what I suggest doing if you're going to have your baby in there.

Not tryin to play the role of a parent, but the safest place for a kid in a car seat is in the back. Proven statistic. But if it's to disable the airbag on the passenger side is all you want just unplug it, the light will come on but it's not like you won't know why. It will not affect the deployment of the other airbags.

I think Cobra had it pretty well. I just swapped my entire dash out about 3 times recently and I still can't remember the airbag mount completely and I had it on and off a half dozen times. If I remember, I'll take a picture of a dash chassis with the airbag sitting in it's location for you.

But.... the little crash computer that sits over your trans tunnel will get pissed off and throw an airbag light if you unplug that airbag.

IMO, the only way to do this right is to simply swap out the main dash plastic with a truck that has the switch (I have one in my truck right now) and swap the little crash box on the tunnel. Then the truck will do exactly what you want, and still be perfectly legal and operate as intended..... so that when the carseat is NOT in there.... the person riding with you can still have an airbag. Fwiw... you truck has the plug, as you've probably already seen if you've had the instruments out.

Otherwise..... you might just pin out the harness to the airbag and build a little "dongle" that replaces it. Body shops will HAVE these airbag impersonators just sitting around for testing purposes if a person was inclinded to find something like that...... just saying.....

Please explain to me how the back seat is safer?

Other then the air bag there is no differance between the Excursion and a X cab...

In the back in the middle....that's the safest place. More vehicle around you. Simple as that. If the child was in the front seat and you get hit in the door area or the middle(B-post), not gonna turn out too hot. Ive been in the body shop business for around 20 years man, and I've seen all kinds of wrecked cars and seriously the back is where the safest place is. Not to say its always convenient but most definitely the safest. Don't take my word for it, do some homework on it you'll see that I have no reason to lie to you.
