I smell gear oil

I had the strong smell of gear oil from the rearend this morning. When I got home I looked under the truck and it looks like some gear oil has come out on the inner part of my rim.

It isnt leaking or coming from the cap on the hub, where the hell else is it? I suppose that this means a hub seal has went.....

I have never done a hub seal, what kind of job is this? Difficult or not too bad? I put fluid in the differential and on Saturday I will pull the cover and make sure that the gears are ok.

Yeah the hub seal took a dump. It's not a bad job at all maybe 1-1.5 hours tops. Your going to need a seal puller and a socket to take the special nut off the spindle. Just be careful setting the seal back in the hub and make sure otherwise you ll end up doing the job again.

Got the seal done this morning but the rear diff fluid change will have to wait until tommorow, have to go to my daughters soccer game.
