im pretty darn sure i broke my ignition actuator rod a few months back. first thought was the key cylinder, but upon removal, seemed fine. i have to start the truck with a screwdriver by pushing the lower part of the actuator on top of the column, and kill it by unhooking the batteries. ignition stays on constantly if the batts are hooked up. is there really any diagnosing i can do without dropping the column? anyone else dealt with this before?

Bumping this back up. Took it apart, found the dowel pin on the end of the actuator rod had fallen out. went ahead and replaced the rod with a new ford version, and long story short, broke the inner plastic piece inside the column that the end of the dowel goes through, so now, the key starts the truck again, but i have to pull the idm fuse to turn the truck off since the actuator rod pulls free of the inner plastic piece now. How screwed am i on finding another plastic piece? or is this going to be a junkyard item?

I had the some thing happen on my 95, but none of my pieces broke. Just the pin came out. I'd be you are going to have to head to a junkyard for that.

had today off, went to ford, and got them to print me out a diagram of the column, and got my part ordered. I can only imagine i have to completely drop the whole column to replace this piece.

Part number is 3e715 if anyone needs this in the future.
