Info on 6.4

Hey all,
Right now I am looking into a 08 F250 with the 6.4! Is there anything I should stay clear of? I am a first time diesel buyer and want to get as much info about this powerplant as possible. Besides the egr delete and exhaust issues is there anything I should really look over? It has 100k miles and they want 20k for it. I will be running the oasis later tonite.

This truck will be my daily driver and the biggest load it will be towing is either my fishing boat or a 4 place sled trailer.

Check the oasis and go from there.. 6.4 is a good engine IMO (and all i have onwed besides an LBZ duramax) Cracked piston is what im having a problem with, right now..

Yep like stated there are known issues, some have good luck some do not, the piston deal you cant check for, only way you might be in the clear if the engine was ever replaced but even then its still a factory ford piston.

Price is decent if thats for a crew cab

Alrite so my buddy tried to run the VIN and nothing came up. Does this just mean there hasnt been any dealership service done to it yet? Wouldnt it still show the original owner and coor and what not?

It should show original color, trim, every option on the truck ect. I believe. At least that is what I have seen. But also any service work done by the dealer.

Im thinking he must have screwed the VIN up. Im going tomorrow to take pictures of it and look it over again. Ill call the dealership after that and see if they will run one. I tyoed it in on Carfax and it came in with 17 reports.

If you're buying it from a ford dealer and you ask them to run the oasis on, there shouldn't be an issue with them doing it for you. I bought my 09 dually from a dealer and they had no problem running it for me.

Its a private sale. Went to look at it today. In good condition, no visible rust. Looks like everything on the truck is stock. Would I still be able to take it to a dealer and get all the recalls done? Ill post a picture of it too. 2008 F250 with 126k there asking 18.5 buy some pretty eager to sell it.

I'm sure you can take is in for any factory recalls to be addressed but I'm not positive.. Maybe someone else can chime in on that one..

yes if it has any recalls you will be able to take it to any ford dealer and get the repairs done free of charge

Triple thats awesome! Went for the test drive today, 4x4 works like it should, shifts nice and smooth too. Got him down to 17k for the price. Running to the bank tomorrow to get everything figured out. Hopefully either Saturday or Monday I can pick it up. First things are tires and a bedliner. Thanks for all your help guys!
