I don't to seem like I'm posting a bunch of useless questions but I'm starting to get deeper into the modifications on my truck and everybody has been very helpful with everything else I've asked. That said I;m getting ready to install injectors in the truck and I've got some major concerns. I've got new glow plugs to put in also but my concern is that I've been ethering the truck for a few winters and I'm worried about breaking the glow plugs off in the heads. I've always used starting fluid with upper cylinder lubricant and try to keep it on the plug if I'm at home but on days that i drove it to work it would set all day and just absolutely not start on its own. It never takes more than just a small shot and it fires right up. My question is: What can I do to ensure that i don't break the glow plugs off? I've been told to pull the valve pan covers and soak them with PB Blaster or WD40 overnight and be very gentle when breaking them loose and as of right now that's my game plan. Any other suggestions?

I think the carbon build up on the tips of the glow plugs is another reason they break off. Most guys are spraying with pb blaster prior to removing. If there is build up on the bottom side, not sure there is much you can do to remove that.
Someone asked about running a tank of cleaner thru prior but I don't think I ever saw a reply to that one.

good luck, it is scary as hell, seems like a crap shoot sometimes, lol.

Thanks haha I'm gonna need it I think. My brother did a set in his 97 and said it went real smooth but it had tranny savers in it when he bought it. It had been tore apart once or twice before and everything was fairly new.

Do you plan on fixing the issues so no either is required for a start?

Definitely, I've got a new set of Motorcraft glow plugs to go in and if that doesn't solve it I'll keep replacing parts till its right. It never takes more than a very small shot to get it fired but it's got me nervous.

Well I went against my normal way of doing things and I'm just gonna pay to have everything done. I'm so busy with everything I've got going right now I just don't have time to do it right now. Got a 96 settin in the garage replacing all the brake lines, fixing an oil leak, and the body work on it. Got an 09 Civic comin in Saturday for gauges and a garage to finish. i work harder when I'm laid off than when I'm on the job lol

You're going to pay someone to put injectors and glow plugs in? It takes like 3 hours if you go slow...

Yea I hate to but unfortunately I'm working 7 days a week trying to get caught up on everything and just don't have the time to do it myself. How do you like your setup? Its similar to what ill be using minus the automatic.
