long story short found a super clean 96' 5 speed crew cab in oregon and im trading my 12 in on it.. i have a d-celerator jake sitting on my bench i was given(bench tested worked great) i was figuring hell throw it on the 96 seeing it wont cost me anything.. only issue is it dose have the 35lb spring in it. would this harm the valvetrain of the 7.3? im only going to be using this for short times if at all. thanks guys

man this is a complete derailed thread lol... i got rid of the 12 becuase i traded my 6.4 for the 6.7 and i miss my 6.4 hands down a better truck in my eyes but really dont see a point of having a truck that expensive if i truely dont like it and that gets 13mpg(regens constantly around 150 miles and i drive all highway doing 65-75), so i have been looking for a reg cab 6.4 but havent found the right one yet and this came along and it is a perfect project for me

but back on topic does anyone know if i can run one without upgraded valvesprings

I have one setting waiting to go on the 96 too.

I think the key question is: HOW MUCH BACK PRESSURE OR DRIVE PRESSURE IS SAFE ON STOCK VALVE SPRINGS?

The US gear exhaust brake has basically the same thing as a turbo wastegate to prevent over pressure and engine damage. It also has a port for a back pressure gauge. Once we have actual knowledge of the above, just put a guage in the test port and make sure it doesn't go above the "safe" backpressure.

That's is correct.. some of the cheaper ones have holes drilled in the flapper to control bp but the us gear has an actual waste gate to control it..... btw mines on and its OK its honestly anoying if your below 2k and flip it on and the felt effects empty our not very impressive

If your looking for a sound like a Jake brake don't bother...... better off strait piping and downshifting sounds more like a Jake then this exhaust brake.. makes a super annoying hissing sound when engaged at low rpms and sounds like a jet at higher rpms(which is the only time you actually feel the brake slow your momentum)
