Have a 13 that I just installed an sctx4 on. Used the canned tunes because I haven't deleted it yet. All stock I put the "street" tune on and went to drive it around. Did a few 25% throttle pulls to about 80mph, then 50%, etc until full throttle. Truck didn't run like I thought it would and sometimes wouldnt build over 10lbs of boost on full throttle. So I chalked it up to the computer still learning the new tune and needing some miles put on it. Put a couple hundred miles on and it started running better. Could build about 20lbs of boost.
Got comfortable with that so I downloaded the "performance" tune. Went through the same process. Turbo would surge between 17-24lbs of boost under 50-75% throttle. Wouldn't build over 10lbs 100% throttle. Pulled over shut the truck off for a min, started it back up, rolled into the throttle until 100% and it seemed normal. About 22-25lbs boost and ran good. Truck just had no get up and go from a dead stop. Runs better now that I put a couple hundred miles on it.
Just installed a 5" no limit intake and the truck is doing the same thing. Can make a couple wot pulls and be fine then it won't build more then 10lbs of boost. Really slow off the line. Chalking it up to the computer re calibrating for the intake.
Not bashing the intake at all I know that has nothing to do with it! Just being paranoid about everything I guess. First diesel.

Tell me what y'all think. Is this normal? Has innovative custom tunes and hope to have it all deleted in the next week or two. Maybe the custom tunes are better. Just seemed like the turbo lit a lot sooner stock. Pulls way harder now when it does light. Just not as instant as it used to be.

Mine's a '15, but is all stock with SCT. On the performance tune it will run 28-29 psi max, but doesn't hit 10 until about 2500 rpm. Doesn't really move the needle until about 1600. Once it does, boost builds fairly fast.

i really dont know alot about the dpf on stuff, but it will change dramatically in every sense once deleted. have you checked for any codes? you may actually have one and its not throwing a light.

It won't build over 10lbs period sometimes, even if it's spinning 3k+ rpm. Seems to do fine if I shut it off then restart it. Also shifts really hard on the 1-2 under 10mph and light throttle.

Taking a 11hr trip to Colorado in a week so I want to leave the stock exhaust on for that. Want it quite. As soon as I get home I'll be deleting it. Thanks again Mike for all the goodies! Can't wait to get them installed. Thinking about getting a mini maxx now though. The wait to retune is way more of a pain in the ass than I thought it would be lol. Want shift on the fly now.

Pull the trigger. If you put a muff on it, you won't notice a difference at speed. It will take care of the BS too.

It will be deleted. Already have 5" straight pipe and no limit egr delete. Just waiting until after my trip to Colorado to do it.

I'm just wondering why it wouldn't build boost and why the turbo doesn't lite instantly like it did stock. Anyone else had these problems? Or did you just install your tunes and it ran perfect?

No I haven't checked codes. I'll do that this evening to see if it's throwing any. There is no cel on but I know it can still throw a code without one.

Bump this back up because the truck is still doing it. It threw a p0402- "egr a excessive detected" code but I think that's because of me trying to run the intake with dpf on tuning. Took it off and cleared the code and it hasn't come back yet.

Took the truck to Colorado and everything was fine until about an hr from home on the trip back. Pulled off to take a piss. Went to merge back on the road, went WOT, and acted like I was towing a 15k trailer behind me. Barely took off, wouldn't build over 10lbs of boost. Cruising at 75 with and without the cruis on the boost gauge stayed on 0-1lbs unless I went WOT then around 3000 rpm it would hit 10lbs. Pulled over and shut the truck off. Restarted it and everything ran fine. Could build 24lbs or so. Couple hrs later and a few WOT pulls and it started acting up again. No boost cruising down the highway and wouldn't build over 10lbs.

Is this a sign of the turbo failing? I'm going to put it back to stock and drive it for awhile and see how it does.

This might be dumb question I also could have missed it.... But are you running the dpf off tunes with the dpf on the stud still? I'm not overly familiar with the SCT tuners but I immagine that would cause all sorts of problems... I seem to remembr I had an issue with my 6.4 acting up like that but I can't remember what the hell it was....

Do you have any leaks in the factory plastic intercooler piping. This does affect boost levels if it is leaking.

I'm running the dpf on tunning and everything else on the truck is stock.

I replaced the factory pipe with an h&s intercooler pipe. Did it with the stock pipe and now with this h&s. I don't believe there are any leaks. Looked at it and everything seems to be fine. Is there a check I can do to make sure it's sealed good?

Your not getting any over boost codes are you? My 13 did that for a bit we had to go back and wright the code out of the tune as it would throw me in to limp mode

No that was the only code I got. Never thrown another light or gone into limp mode. I'm thinking it's the dpf on tunes aren't setup right.

U know that h&s has two kits. One that uses some of the factory piping that doesn't require special tuning. Which kit did u get

Yes I know. I got the one that works with stock and tuned vehicles. Like I said earlier, It did it before I replaced the intercooler pipe also.

Just checking...you put the o-ring inside the H&S adaptor, right?

It's pretty loose in stock form but the H&S kit seals a lot tighter and won't blow up like the stupid plastic crap. You do reuse the o ring from the stock unit. Maybe check and make sure you didn't knock the o ring loose during install?

Yeah I put the O-ring back in. Pissed me off that you buy a $350 part and they can't include a new $.50 o-ring. Everthying seems to be fine with it. It dude the same thing with the stock pipe also. I put the truck back to the stock tune yesterday and haven't any problems. Granted I've only put probably 20miles on it.

Probably going to delete it and install the custom tunes this weekend. I just want to make sure this isn't a sign of the turbo failing. It's still under warranty so I don't want to do all the deletes and have the turbo fail and then return it back to stock and see if ford will cover it. I know I know, do a 15 turbo swap. I plan on doing streetmax. Just want to wait till the end of the year.
