So the 01 f550 dump I bought has some serious issues. Previous owner pulled the pass side manifold off.

Today I got under it and looked, I cant get any of the broken studs out of the motor. They are rotted in unbelievable.

What are my options, pull the motor and drill? Side of the block is hideous. I doubt a new manifold will sit flush and I doubt a gasket will seal.

Buy another motor and swap it In?

vise grips and a torch maybe? you could pull the heads off the motor and have them machined to make sure the mating surfaces are completely flat.. manifold bolts are the worst had to put new manifold gaskets on my previous truck terrible.. good luck!

Yeah tried the torch and vice grip trick, not a snow flakes chance.

At this point im not sure and i dont really have the time to play with it as far as motor swap. She's probably going up for sale.

Easyout... Ive had them broke off inside the head and got them out with easy outs. Heat, PB blaster and easyout.

It is in such rough shape you cant even tell where there were any studs previously. Ill snag some photos later on.

Im thinking a head swap may be an answer

Pull the head, then use a drill and an easy out after lots of PB Blaster. If you have a drill press, worst case, drill and helicoil.

x2-- pull the head and you will get it out. if you use an easyout, using a large one is the key. Small ones are easy to start, but they will break before overcoming the torque required to remove. Keep stepping up with the drill size (keep your hole square to the stud) and use an easy out that is almost as large as the stud.

How much work is required to pull the head? This is the passenger side, but the drivers side is just as bad. So in reality i will need to pull both to fix the issue correctly and replace both manifolds.

I've never dug into an engine this far before, valvecovers come off, pop the injectors, then headbolts?

Forgive my lack of knowledge guys, I usually just run the piss out of them for work and never have to get this deep.

Does the turbo and pedestal need to come off? what about fuel filter assembly up top etc.

More you can take off the better. More room to work. Pretty much everything off the top of the motor. Not sure how much these heads weigh, but they are heavy beeches.

Head =250lbs,iirc. No joke moving one.of.those.

I would try to.get them out. If you are.going to have to buy new cylinder heads anyway, then give it a.shot. Take the wire.wheel to the rusty mess.and.then heat them ***kers up. When they are hot, hit em with penetrant.

I just looked at your photos....holy fugg. You might have to start.over, you're.right. Those.are.***kin gone.
