sub...

I was going to go with a ford HD reman when the 4r100 in the SD dies then put a modded valve body in it depending on how the HD reman one is.

i have a cooler and deep pan already would the vb keep the tc locked up

Keeping the tc locked is more a function of tuning. What year SD do you have? Reason I ask is to see what PCM you have. If its an early 99...the shifts sucked big time on that pcm. If you have a PMT code pcm...you got a good one.

The valve body will make the shifts quicker. The quicker the shift...the less slippage that occurs...which in turns extends tranny life.

But...depending on how big of lift and tires you plan on putting in...your tranny is going to get a workout.

I've heard good things about the woods vb. When you say you have a cooler...what cooler? Is it a 6L stacked plate cooler...or tube/fin style cooler?

Add a high quality torque converter to the list and it should hold with some
lite mods. I modded and towed, trans didnt like that. Fluid turned to smelly
coffee. BTS fixed that.

Do the mods to the trans, it will last much longer.

I just put together a buddy of mines 4r100, we just did a basic stock rebuild since everything looked good inside anyway. Only reason we pulled the trans is the front pump seal was leaking after 150k and he bought a Transgo Tugger kit for it a while back and hadnt put it in yet. Also got the Transgo lockup kit that changes it from the PWM lockup to an on/off lockup like the E4OD. I am a fan of the tugger kit over just doing a valve body, but the trans has to come out to do it all. To top it off we put in a Suncoast converter. It shifts very nice and puts the power to the ground much better now.
