Hey guys, I'm going to look at a 2008 f-250 xlt 4x4 ccsb

I need a truck to get me through the rest of the winter, I just got rid of my last beater because it was starting to become way too unreliable.

The truck has 250k miles, it's at a dealer that got the truck from an auction. It has a clean title, it's bone stock and its a one owner truck.

I had my buddy pull the oasis report

Unfortunately he didn't expand the most critical issue, I'm having him run the report again tomorrow before I go look at the truck

I can get the truck for 14k otd title tax and license fee.

I was thinking about bringing my coolant pressure tester to check the head gaskets.. What else should I look for?

Way too many miles. I wouldn't feel comfortable buying something like that.

look on auto trader, you can find a truck with 150k on it for 14k...250k for 14k is too much money....

I'm trying to respect everyone's opinion here, especially because I'm asking for it. I've been looking for a 6.4 for six months and locally there are very few trucks that go for under 20k. Maybe the market is just insane here, or maybe some of you are being slightly dramatic

Some of you may laugh, but just going on blue book, a similar 6.4 with 150k blue books for 20k in my area.. I'm one for negotiating, but trying to tell someone their truck is worth half of blue book is difficult

Get on ebay, autotrader, craigslist, etc. etc. look down south find a truck you like. Get a report on said vehicle(s) if that checks out good, buy a plane ticket fly down pick it up and drive home. I guarantee you will find waaaay better deals.. good luck on your search

i just feel like 250k is a lot miles on stock 6.4 with a dpf on it still. if you can deal with it, then go for it, i'm not sure i could, the trucks i was talking about were mostly 2wd trucks, some regular cabs some extended and some were crew cabs...

Without a doubt the miles are a concern, but really I need it to get me through the winter and after that I can give it some serious tlc.

I have to have 4x4 and you do pay a premium for it in Michigan. I just feel like as long as the body is really clean and the suspension is tight I can justify the price especially for a crewcab.

out the door I don't see that being too bad...

Thank god, I'm not insane.

Now is a bad time to be in the market for a 4x4 truck in MI. I wish I had the time to search the country but I really don't.. I'm in a little bit of a pinch

well if you plan to build the motor or the whole truck for that matter then go for it...i'm sure it will get you through the winter, i'm sure you plan to do the delete's asap, I would try and check the fuel trims with a scanner before you buy it. who know's maybe it got a new motor and only has 125k on the motor then that's not bad at all. if you just need some cheap transportation for just you, not a family vehicle, I would just go out and buy a chevy s10 blazer 4x4 or gm suv for 1000 dollars or 2000 and drive that. but if you want something to build then this could be a good start. take a look at it tomorrow and let us know how clean it is.

It was really clean, solid body, tight suspension, frame still has all the nice factory paint on it, good tires it honestly runs damn good. No excessive blowby, trans shifts good, oil doesn't seem diluted

Personally if I was gonna buy a 200k mile truck I may look down my direction I see 15-250k 6.4's for 15k all the time. I was going to look for Xl or xlt out of service trucks they are like 8-9k and less miles.

That's fine, but this wasn't a service truck. It's a one owner truck with options, and it's spotless, not to mention I paid less then 15.

There's always a better deal, but I love the truck and I'm looking forward to taking good care of it.
