Loss of power

So here is what happened, i was driving home tonight bout a half hour ride almost home hit a red light, come to a stop and when it turned green ipushed the pedal and nothing just idald for a good 30 feet then all the sudden it hit and took off, it drove fine the rest of the way home so i have no clue what it could be any ideas? Oh i was on cruse controle i hit the breaks for the light.
