lost my key... need info

so i only had one key... yes one key since i got the truck not running wrecked and repo'd. so then i decide to go and loose my only key. how do i know if it had a chip in the key and can i get another made by vin?

You can bring the vin to the dealer and they can cut a key and tell ya if its chipped or not. We had to do it to a few work trucks more then a few times

If you can find the original dealer, they would possibly have the key code on file. IDK if the VIN would help with a key, good question.

Ford can cut a key buy VIN alone. However, since you have no other keys it will prob. have to be hauled to the dealer to be programmed. Im sure that the key does have a chip, but you could have them just cut you a regular key for a few bucks to turn the switch on to load it.

original dealer is in texas :doh: haha this truck was a auction truck i got dirt cheap! and only had 1 key and no batterys. got it running good now and lost the key i seen somewhere online you can program a chip key by yourself

If you have Auto Enginuity or something like it you can program PATS.

i think you need two original keys to program another key iirc. It tells you how to do it in the owners manual
