did a cold comp check on the engine on the stand i am planning on doing top end work and got 350 on all except two witch came back 250, and 100. first thought was oh s**t. pulled the head of that side and was surprised to see all the cylinders with crass hatch and no lip on the top of the cylinder. there was some slight rusting maybe indicating head gasket issues. could it be valves or still bad rings. thoughts?

Should have done a leak down first on the closed cyl to determine where the pressure was going. Oh well, you're this far so it's valves and rings.

was going to do a leak down. i put a screw driver down the gp hole to determine top dead and the damn thing broke off down in there so i had to pull the head. What should i look for in the valves pitting? cause none are burnt.

Since they will need to be prepped for new HGs, have a std valve/seat grind done at same time. Unless you're planning for big power, get the std rebuild stuff and you're good to go.
