I have a mpd kit with piping and the s363 and notice my temps never get above 185 to 190 degrees while cruising around town so would I benefit from getting a Mishimoto low temperature thermostat which opens at 189°F/196°F compared to the factory at 194°F/201°F. Do I have it right that if the thermostat stays closed most of the time when I'm driving then the coolants not getting circulated?

At light load your temps are going to show lower. You're more than likely running with the 194° thermostat opening off and on. But under light load it doesn't ever produce enough heat to get to open the 201.

I'm running a low temp mishmoto that I put in for summer and noticed going into fall now my temps rarely hit 185° even towing. Just cruising around I sit around 178-183. So I'm planning on changing back for winter. But when it's a 105° ambient when you're towing, I like the piece of mind.

Might be a stretch for you but a high temp might work better if you don't tow. My $.02...

I do tow a 5x10 cargo daily but it only weighs 3500lbs. So what your saying is it may be better to have the temps higher? I just thought a cooler running engine would be better.

Not necessarily. I wouldn't bother with changing it personally if it runs there. Your thermostat is opening. I only changed mine because my temps were hitting 208-210 on the water and oil temps were hitting 220-225, which isn't bad just higher than I like to see...

Cooler running diesels aren't necessarily the best performing. There's multiple factors at play, the single most important one I feel is does the system operate properly. Meaning does the cooling system control engine oil temps thru the different operating modes. So one should see the tstat opening and closing changing ECT, then with EOT moving slightly as well. IF you change driving mode (I.E. towing heavy) the ECT and EOT should reflect the change in motor operation (higher heat) but be controlled thru the tstat opening an closing.
