While changing fuel filters last week I found some fine metal shavings in the fuel bowl. What does that mean? This was the first filter change since I bought the truck 2 months ago. approx 130,000 miles on the truck.

Are they magnetic? I had some too but ended up being from the aluminum fuel and oil caps I had.

Pull the the banjo bolts out of the fuel cooler where the lines go in and check for metal in the bottom of the fuel cooler, if there is metal in the cooler your hp fuel pump is probably starting to come apart.

I didn't think to check if they were magnetic. It wasn't even shavings so much as very fine metal flake and I had to shine the drop light in there at just the right angle to see them. I think I'm just being paranoid about it but I will check the fuel cooler as well.

Put the fuel sample in a black plastic cap, say off of a brake clean can. Then take a light to it.. Either way, prepare for a ~$7k repair bill.. Fuel system jobs that are done right are not cheap
