It was in the -5 last night and after 3 hours on the block heater got the truck to run. But when I went done the road it started missing. It will idle fine. Is this a symptom of gelled up fuel? What should I do to un gel it?

Sure sounds like it.. Some people don't like to use Power Service but there 911 flat out works to ungel a truck..

On edit: The red quart bottle.. You can buy it just about anywhere including Wal-Mart..

First thing to do is change the filter. Most times that is the problem. After you do that put a good anti gell in there. 911 works if it is gelled up and will not start. BUT will not keep the fuel from gelling. It only goes in and ungels it then is no good. After that I like howes or the white bottle of Power service. I use Howes in the winter and have run in -30 and -40 without ever gelling. I have never had (personally) a 7.3 gell. I ran #2 all winter. But had Howes in every tank.

ok thanks for the info! The auto parts was out of 911. So I got a bottle anti gel called meltdown. Wonder if it will do the trick? The bottle says emergency fuel treatment for gelled diesel fuel

Should work.

Emergency Meltdown: Melt Down, a biodiesel additive, is a highly effective formula specifically formulated to provide significant performance benefits in all diesel fuels, including ultra low sulfur diesel and biodiesel fuel blends.

Melt Down is specifically formulated to dissolve gelled fuel back into solution and return the flow in approximately 20 minutes. It will not harm fuel pumps, nozzles, or any pre-combustion components. It is an emergency fuel treatment only.

As Powerstroke Cowboy said, I would replace your filter as soon as you can, it probably has ice crystals/waxing in it and if it does it isn't of much use..

You can't find a bottle of 911 within a 50 mile radius here.

We spent the day pushing in trucks and unveiling them.

I also started to gel today. Just pulled over, out rest of bottle of 911 in and kept going.

Thanks for the help! Maybe I can get everything un gelled tomorrow

Don't see why not.. It's been cold everywhere this winter, you may want to throw some Power Service "the white bottle" in every tank to stop it from happening again..

I just picked up a bottle of 911 today and they seem to be charging top dollar for it. My fuel hasn't gelled yet but the damn truck won't really get fully warmed up either. Just got the bottle in case I or someone else pulled over on the road needs it. My buddies truck was partially gelling. He could make it about 10 miles then it would bog down and he had to pull over and let it recoup a little then keep going. Lots of places are out of 911 though.

if you have any big rig truck stops theyll have all the brands. i like howe's. ive heard bad about the white power service if you over use it. im currently using XDP's polar-d because it was $4 for each bottle so i have 7 bottles of the stuff sitting here somewhere. 1 ounce per 8 gallons and i haven't gelled yet running big rig truck stop fuel and polar-D but like i said the 911 is there just in case.

LOL I hear you there! The thought has crossed my mind. Just after 6 years I would think it would have happened already. I used to carry it but never used it. So I quit. It would be a good practice to. Might just toss a bottle in there just to have who knows I might run into a person that needs it.

ON EDIT: Now that I said all that^^^^^^^ My pickup is going to gell.... :D
