hello i just bought a early 99 (made in march) 7.3l f250 lariat ext. cab short box white with 164000 on the odo. this is the first diesel for me and i was in need of some good places to look for aftermarket things so i can start shopping for stuff to put on to make it mine and so i can get some performance out of it and possibly fix it up along the way. thank you

Start with preventative maintenance. Coolant filter, bypass on oil system, fuel filter ofcourse. All fluids, including power steering, diffs, t case, trans filter.

I have had a coolant filter on for a few thousand miles now and it really cleaned up the system.

This was my first filter, only ran it 1500 miles

and I chose the Amsoil dual by-pass for oil side

when changing the fuel filter, maybe even take the entire bowl out to clean it. The seal kits are cheap and its much easier, especially if its dirty like this one...

yes i have this very small oil leak that i want to address first before i change the oil to amsoil with the help of my good buddie strokin platinum. if i get on it hard like stop and go or going exessive speed when i park it on my concrete floor i get this puddle of oil never to big but about three inches in dia. and the one time i looked it was all over the down pipe like it had been sprayed on there so im guna clean the motor up tomorrow and will take pics before and after.

First thing check the valley and see if you have oil pooled up there and how far tot eh front it is. All oil that goes to the valley ends up going down the back of the engine. Looks like a rear seal leak to those that do not have experience with 7.3s.

The possiblities for oil leak there:

HPOP rear seal (snap ring), IPR seal, ICP, HPOP front gasket

Turbo mount or fittings, EBPV system

THe fact that it seems the most oil is when you get on the engine hard I am thinking maybe HPOP as if it was the turbo or EBPV you would see it regardless. That is just a guess it could still be any of them. THe front is easier to check anyways and work on.

First thing clean up the valley really good then see if you can see the leak is coming from. A mirror helps to look under the hpop.

As was stated the very first thing along with fixing the leak is to get ALL fluids changed flushed and filters replaced. That is ALL fluids.

engine oil
PW steering
Trans
Brake system
Coolant
Fuel filter
both axle difs
check and grease all the joints
Unit bearings check and grease

The oil is pooling up in the valley of his truck the previous owner said they supposedly changed all the hpop o-rings but i think the hpop is the first place we will check for the leak.
