Alright everyone right now I have an 2008 6.4 with right at 75k on it. Need advice on keeping it and putting studs in it, or upgrading to a 6.7. The 6.7 would stay stock, while the 6.4 has all ******s and tuner. I just cant decide if I want to sink more money into this truck or put it towards a newer one. Any help would be great.

Thanks

I'd just upgrade to a 6.7....interior is nicer, stock trans holds plenty of power, doesnt require head studs since its 6 head bolts per cylinder now....Truck can make 500 rwhp on tune and ******s, might as well

why sink more money into the 6.4? just drive it as is

Because if I keep the tuner on it, I feel like the head gaskets will go sooner or later, so I would rather do studs now that I have the money then need them down road, and not be able to afford them. So that was the question is put another 4k into this one or put that towards a newer one.

you only have 75k on it... my last two 6.4's that I personally put almost 100k miles a piece on had almost 200k when I sold them.

big healthy race tunes on both trucks

I never even considered studs any sort of necessity. Zero issues with either trucks.

if your only two options are waste $4k on your current truck or put it towards a 6.7, I say put it towards a 6.7

I have learned the hard way you don't get you ur $ back on mods and 4 k drops the payment some on a newer more refined truck. If it were me I'd find a 15 leftover and sign away... Just my .02

If you are running around in a tuned 6.4, I highly doubt you will be content with a stock 6.7. You'll end up tuning it as well. And the 11-14 6.7s haven't been hitting 500 on a simple d-leet and tune. The 15s, I hear do well, but not the 11-14s. So save the 4 grand for more air and fuel.

I am not needing the power, I worry about the head gaskets because I pull a lot with the 6.4 so I don't want to be worrying about them when I cruise down the road. I really like the 6.4, I just am at a point where I can add some "insurance" to it, or get something newer.

Get a custom towing tune for it.

I see way more damaged pistons than I do blown head gaskets.

Diving in to fix something that isn't broken just invites more potential problems.

When these trucks blow a head gasket, it's not catastrophic. You can just get it fixed then.

It's the same job doing it once it lifts a head as it is doing it now.

I'd just save the $4000 and keep adding to it, personally...

Just get good tunes and drive it. Save the 4k for a rainy day. I have 109k on mine, del etes since 14k and no issues. I am particular on maintenance and do all my own.

If you are considering a 6.7 might as well do it now rather than after you put more money into the 6.4 and then turn around and get the 6.7. Once you get that bug, its not going away.

This for sure.
I have so much time, effort and money in my truck I won't get rid of it. But if you think you will get rid of it within the next 5 years get a 6.7l. They are very nice and flat move even 100% stock. Plus milage will always be better with a 6.7l than a 6.4 no matter what you do to the 6.4l

6.7 hands down. Even in stock form they pull excellent and get decent fuel economy. It's also nice not having to worry about a piston randomly cracking and that will cost you alot more than four grand.

Personally i'd say just keep the 6.4 and don't do headgaskets yet, i drive the balls off my 6.4 and tow and don't worry about headgaskets going, be smart about waiting until its fully up to operating temp to go wide open. And don't hold it wide open for longer then 13-14 seconds and you probably won't blow any headgaskets, if anything if want to dump money into it, put a wastegate kit on it and a 72mm atmo on it.
