Went to install egr today and the bolts broke off in the manifold so had to tear off the whole top end to be able to drill them out ! And there is oil in the boot I don't know if it's from the turbo or a ccv! About a tablespoon of oil maybe I tried moving the shaft doesn't seem like any play ! Maybe a 16th of an inch side to side ! What should I do ? Turbo still good or replace or what U guys think

It's the ccv, crazy how much crap gets sent back in there!! Sucks about your bolts breaking. As far as the turbo goes, if you run custom tuning or the older older H&S tuning with boost much above 24psi, you'll be replacing it more than likely. Truck runs awesome with the 15 charger!!

It's pretty crazy how much oil collects in the intake, boots, etc. on these trucks. I know I'm planning to purchase a CCV reroute kit soon.

Unfortunately, the stock turbos aren't all that reliable, even on unmodified trucks. Yes, running a lower-boost tune will help, but a 2015 retrofit kit is your best bet in the long run.

I guess it all depends on what your goals are... I went with a VGT to maintain street manors and drivability. There are a lot of good people on here that sell these kits, and I'm sure any one of them would be able to help you pick the right setup. I have a turbo kit from Morgan at Midwest Diesel & Auto, and I'm very happy with it. Everyone has their own opinion of what's "best", but I went with Morgan's product because of all the testing he's done with these trucks.

Mine is the 64MM StreetMax, and there's definitely a power difference. Between the turbo and a 2015 HPFP, the truck runs circles around what it used to do.

The 15 turbo is much more reliable than the stock 11-14 turbos. As far as the transmission goes, tuning is a big part of it and Gearhead is great!! It seems like the 15's are a little weaker than the 11-14 transmissions with fewer clutches when paired with modded turbos and fuel.

How much cheaper is it to replace the turbo before they blow as opposed to after? Does a blown turbo send **** into the motor or just burn the bearings up? Trying to plan in advance.

Mine just took out the turbo. The dealer I had diagnos what I already knew tried telling me the engine was damaged but I've sent an oil sample out every oil change since new so that was not the case. I then sent another short run just to be sure and no evidence of damage is present. I think they figured I have some coin in the truck and they thought I would fork over the money for engine replacement. Turbo crapped out with boat in tow a half mile from home and didn't run again till they looked at it although I don't believe they looked a whole bunch based upon answers I got to the questions I asked. I will say that the oil in the exhaust would've been pretty $$ had it not been deleted and been sent into the dpf. Turbo was intact, just took out the bearings. The truck truly runs much better with the 15 style turbo.

Thanks Keith. Thats what I am hoping most will say. Thats definitely much better than the alternative. Sorry for the thread hijack. I figured it was close enough to OP.
