Ok, well I bought a 05 F350 FX4 today, has 191,000 miles on it. Just trying to figure out what I may need to look for or do to it. I don't pick it up until Wed this week. It has had ARP studs, EGR delete, high pressure oil pump, oil cooler upgrade, upgraded head gaskets, etc. Has intake and exhaust, but no tuning. The guy I'm buying it from was out of town today, so I had to meet his uncle and he didn't know a lot about the truck. The owner said he hasn't had any tuning or anything on the truck since he owned it, about 2 years and is the second owner. All the engine work was done in 2012 by a diesel performance shop, he has all the receipts, but they weren't with the truck today. Over 5000.00 worth he said for the work.

I'm new to the 6.0 and ford diesels in general, I had an 03 Dmax for 8 years, but this is my first Ford. It drove nice, nice and tight and is a super clean truck inside and out. It had a fifth wheel hitch at some point, I can see where it was bolted. But it's clean underneath and in the hard to get to spots, so I don't believe it's been a farm truck so to speak.

What can I do for just a tad more power? Tune I'm guessing? Love how it sounds and it runs out nice, but maybe a little more giddy up would be great! Lol

Well, I'm really just thinking 100-150hp over stock? I have no idea what to expect? It ran out nice, showed about 20lbs of boost, I'm guessing that's about right for stock. I just like to have fun driving and decent fuel mileage would be a plus. What should I expect mileage wise, Not pulling a trailer?

What sootie said. Get an SCT with some tunes from Gearhead or Innovative and you'll be happy for awhile and be putting down 425-440 hp.

Definitely pick up an SCT device and then try out some tunes from some of the reputable tuners. That will turn it into a whole different animal. I would also HIGHLY recommend getting an Edge insight cts to handle monitoring and make sure all your crucial parameters and temps are in check! Feel free to shoot me a message if you need anything, I will gladly get you set up with what you need at a great price!

I find it hard to believe it wasn't tuned (conveniently didn't have the $5k receipts which probably had a tuner listed on there LOL) Either way, sounds like a solid base. Start with the tuning, it's a whole new truck just on that alone.

Congrats on the buy man. I've had two 6 liters and I run sct and custom tunes on mine. Sct tunes provide good power but custom tuning is the way to go for power and mileage. Ask around and look around and see what people like. Good luck and sharp lookin truck.

Also get a fuel pressure gauge, id be impressed if that is the original pump and its still holding enough pressure.
Idk if the Edge monitor has fuel PSI.

It doesn't come with fuel pressure monitoring. It does support it though. Just need the add on sensor and wiring kit.

Well I have the receipts for the work now, and it doesn't have the tuning on it, was done in 2012 looks like. ARP studs and head gaskets, EGR delete, oil cooler, and 6 new injectors looks like, and resurfaced the heads. About 5500 worth. I'm gonna get a SCT and tunes from Gearhead I guess? What about EDGE? Also, what fuel pressure am I looking for when I check it?

No problem brother. You can pm me or any of the other 6.0 guys for help and I'm sure they'd be willing to help. Always search the forums I've learned a lot just through sitting around and reading. Good luck.

Fuel pressure needs to stay at least 45 psi under wide open throttle.
As far as what to look for it depends on where the pressure sending unit is mounted. I have mine mounted off the drain plug in the fuel bowl as most others do. Its easier than going off the lines at the back of the heads but will show higher PSI than what is actually going to the injectors. With a new pump and sending unit mounted off the fuel bowl mine sits at 70 psi and never drops below 65 wot on my hottest tune. Im convinced that gives me well over 45 psi constant going to the injectors.

I was digging through the truck today and found receipts from the local Ford dealer for a FICM replacement in 2010, and high pressure oil pump replacement. Looks like I have most all the receipts for work done to the thing anyway!

I'll get a fuel pressure gauge on it soon. Thanks for the help guys!
