i had recently had to run a starter solenoid as a gpr , just put in a new motorcraft one and when i turn the key on the battery gauge is low and it cranks slow , new starter is on so i know its not that , im assuming my batteries are low because the glow plugs are now getting the correct amps with the correct gpr , is this right? , the truck fires up and runs great with the help of some wd 40

Did you wire it up correctly? Ive never run into this issue, Im thinking you have something drawing some juice

i still need to switch the wires around , it does not have the i and s like the other one did on the little terminals , iv tried 2 other gpr's from the auto store but took them back , as said with the starter solenoid on it it turns quicker but still wont fire , after i drove it it didnt even sit for 5 seconds before i tried firing it again and it just cranked and cranked

You can't hook a GPR up incorrectly. That is as long as you place the small wires on the small lugs and the large wires on the large lugs.

Big question is did you test the relay to see what the voltage drop was across the large terminals when it was energized and how are your batteries?

supposedly my batteries are good , i just put a new motorcraft gpr in today and its like the power gets cut in half , the battery gauge is not even at half and it slow cranks , has a brand new starter on it along with the alternator , this morning with the starter solenoid on it cranks over fast but does not fire

When the glow plugs light up you are drawing around 190 amps from the batteries and the voltage will drop. I haven't actually measured it but it will be below 11 volts since it takes a little over 10 volts for the engine to start. So if your batteries are not up to snuff that would explain the slow cranking.

When you had the starter relay on it may of not been energizing since most of them are case grounded and you may of had the key on power connected to the wrong terminal. But that is just a guess. Charge up your batteries on a charger and take them down to a shop and have them tested to make sure that they are good.

If all your GPs aren't working, it'll throw off the cranking time. Check the UVCH (internally and externally) for any burnt pins.

Also, if it turns over slow, where did you get the starter from? I only use Motorcraft starters. And I swapped over to a SD starter.

What makes you think that the starter didn't go bad? Those box auto parts store buy the cheapest reman parts. Do you really think all the parts in the starter were replaced?

Yea check your cables and batteries. Did you buy the appropriate size batteries?

seems like its maybe pulling from 1 battery , fired up a bit ago even when cranking slow , the hpop is full of oil , i know it has nothing to do with injectors , since my truck is a messed up conversion i have seen fuse #22 get thrown around about this , anybody have a diagram or something for it?

im thinking i either have a short or this relay is no good , i hook the relay up and get no power at all , just clicks when u try and start it , i unplug the relay and get enough to turn the truck over ,
