My brother is looking to get a 7.3, he found an ad on Craigslist for a 1997 250 for $4100. It is all stock. No mods at all not even air box! The only downside is, it has 260,000 miles. The guy says the blow by is at a normal rate. Doesn't look like any rust on the body. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Right on! Good to know, the guy said he changed oil at 5-6k with rotella. That seems a little high to me, but I will convince my brother to go 4-5k if he gets it! Haha I can get my aeroforce scan gauge on it to do buzz & contribution test & check for DTC's

The only concern I would have with any OBS is how well the air box was sealed and that the engine didn't suck in dirt. I would check the blow bye out the fill cap and decide from there. I would also check the body/suspension to make sure everything is sound. 5-6K oil changes aren't bad. We have 3 7.3's that go 7-8K between changes and valve covers haven't been off for 200K miles. I would offer as low as you can. I wouldn't worry about injectors because I would throw some baby swamps in it with a chip and downpipe.

Right on! Good to know, I always keep mine around 4-5k. Ya, we are going to check the blow by tonight & see what the body/frame/engine looks like. Of course, I will make him buy the 6637 right away haha. Thanks guys!

260k miles on the stock air box worries me a little. Also check the orange rubber boot at the inlet, they loooove to fall apart and rip, and almost always on the bottom, so its hard to see.

Is it something to worry about if the filter was changed?

The orange hose is between the airbox and the turbo. If its torn, you have dirt going into the turbo/engine. There is a factory modification kit that replaces the obsolete orange hose.

Yes I am aware of that! Thank you, I got that upgrade for my truck! Kind of pricey though...

Yes because the the design of the clamping hardware on the stock airboxes suck. They use plastic hardware that breaks and can't seal 100%.

RiffRaff diesel has a very nice replacement elbow for about $60 I think. I had one on my OBS and fit and worked very well.
